Teens Gets 12 Strokes Of Cane Or Jail For Speaking Out On Insecurity

An 18-year-old girl identified as Hamdiyya Sidi Shariff has been sentenced to 12 strokes of the cain, 2 years imprisonment or a fine of N50,000 for speaking out on growing insecurity and societal ills on Sokoto State.

She was arrested in November 2024 after she posted a series of videos online where she lamented on the incessant bandit attacks in her region, displacement of residents and the sexual exploitation of women.

Government authorities had accused her of using abusive language against Governor Ahmed Aliyu and inciting the public through a TikTok video.

According to reports, Shariff was abducted by armed men, while she was trying to retrieve her phone. She was assaulted and thrown out of a moving tricycle. She was later tried before a Magistrate and Sharia court.

During the hearing of her case on February 2025, translated videos and a flash drive was submitted as evidence and it was also revealed that her statement was taken under duress and without a legal counsel.
Despite this, the court upheld her bail conditions until her recent sentencing.

  1. This country is not for the oppressed. Injustice is everywhere from the top.
BH and Fulani herdsmen are roaming free and killing citizens in their sleep but it's a harmless 18 years that they will flex power .

  2. I feel for young ladies in that region. They should relocate if they want to speak out, for their own safety.

  5. What is the meaning this?

It's like the Northerners are more powerful than the President.

Everyone has forgotten about Deborah that was stoned to death by these wicked people. The Nigerian Police has not arrested any of the people that committed that evil crime even though they were bold enough to show their faces on camera.

Dangote's son in law had the guts to support such devilish act publically, yet, he wasn't arrested. He might even be among the northern elites hiding the perpetrators and preventing the Police from arresting them.

Everyone moved on like nothing happened.

May God take control of Nigeria.

  9. The federal government needs to step in for this young person.

Many of the freedoms we so easily enjoy today came through young people, especially those in the universities who protested and demanded change. Stifling the voices of the youth is one of the worst things that any country could do.

  12. The reason the we have persistent insecurities in the country is because this people in the North embrace this lifestyle. All the monthly allocation which had since gone up under Tinubu administration due to subsidy removal ,are not spent on the state but it goes to personal coffers. This is what they want keeping women as slave and molesting young adolescent. They are cradle raiders and part of the reasons we have found it quite difficult to have a good government. Their leaders like to keep them in ignorance just to enslaved them. Say something reasonable they would come for your head.
