''RESCUE FROM THE CRIMINALS DEN....
I flew into Ghana for the ECOWAS Golden Jubilee event and was met with troubling news. Security operatives from the Organized crime office, Ghana had just rescued over 200 young Nigerians, many of them, 15 years and possibly below, in a sting operation at an estate at Oyarifa Greater Accra Region.
Prior to their rescue ,these boys had been locked up in about 25 rooms within the estate where they were used to perpertrate cybercrimes.
At the time of their arrest, many of them , being locked inside confined spaces with computers for weeks on end without being let outside, were even unable to get their eyes to adjust to the sun when they were led ouside those dark tooms. Some had been serially abused with visible lacerations inflicted on them by their Criminal 'don' while one had his legs broken for not tendering all the proceeds of his cybercrime
I moved straight from the Airport to the Organised Crime Headquarters where they were held. It was a heartbreaking sight. So many young boys, many, younger than my own children, who were lured into Ghana with promises of a better life and ended up in bondage.
One of them, barely 15 told me his parents believed he was in Lagos working as an apprentice in a trader's store. Little did they know their young lad had been recruited as a slave forced to fleece and scam, and that his life was undoubtedly in danger.
Quite often, young boys like these go mssing without a trace and there is nobody willing to account for how they died.
I met with the DG and officials of Ghana Economic and Organized Crimes office to convey our Government's concern for the safe returns of these citizens. I also addressed these young boys, including 7 girls and we have compiled their details to enlist them in Government's social intervention programs so they can be equipped with skills to make a legitimate living without putting their lives at risk.
They will be transported home to Nigeria hopefully today to be reunited with their families as the Ghanaian Authorities continue their investigations into this matter. Many of the main perpetrators of this syndicate are based in Nigeria and we hope our own Economic and Financial Crimes Commission will conduct a concurrent investigation into this matter''.
This is heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteSuch young lads
I hope the main people behind this are apprehended and punished
As they are being rescued, some are getting ready and are even on their way back there.
ReplyDeleteNever ending circle....
The people who run these syndicates are evil, they also go to churches to recruit innocent young people, especially teenage girls.
ReplyDeleteThe one who approached me, saw me in church, catholic church and o, and he made it look like, I was going for an ushering job, but we would be going to kano first to see the emir, from there to Abuja, I laughed in my mind, He said, fine girl like you, need to meet top politicians, then he showed me his registration book, that's when I realized that so many innocent girls have already fallen victim to that man. You need to see names, the book was filled with names of girls.
