Nigeria's Govt Budgets N10bn For Solar Power

The State House has allocated the sum of N10bn in the 2025 approved budget for the installation of a solar mini-grid at the Presidential Villa.

This follows an increase in the overall budgetary allocation to the State House Headquarters, which rose from N47.11bn in the initially proposed 2025 budget to N57.11bn in the approved version.

The additional N10bn was traced to a jump in capital expenditure, which moved from N33.55bn to N43.55bn.
A breakdown of the new capital items reveals that the increase was solely due to the planned solar project, titled “Solarisation of the Villa with Solar Mini Grid,” with a full allocation of N10bn.

The move comes amid growing concerns over unreliable public electricity supply and the high cost of electricity for both households and government institutions.
The solar project is expected to reduce dependence on the national grid and limit the impact of tariff hikes on government finances.

    1. They only care about themselves...UCH Ibadan and other important institutions don't have alternative supplies but of course, the presidency must have it first...

You want people to sacrifice for your own comfort but you are not ready to sacrifice...Continue borrowing money up and down and leave the country in dire straits....

  5. So the presidential villa wants to abandon us for solar. A whooping 10b not even 500m for solar installation.
It is bye bye to Nigerians and power distribution company.

  6. That sounds like a huge sum for solarising one residence. In my mind I am thinking 500 million feels more realistic, but I am just a person on the internet, what do I know. I still can’t wrap my head around the figure of 10 billion.

Did they open the project to bidding and select from the estimates provided? For any government conscious about spending and the economic wherewithal of the nation then as a cost saving measure these projects should be open to bids.
