Former Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has admitted that accepting the role of vice-presidential candidate alongside Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 election was a mistake that went against the sentiments of his people.
Okowa who was a guest on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday said he had deeply reflected on the political implications of his decision, acknowledging that many in Delta State were opposed to another Northerner succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Even during the campaign, I could feel that our people didn’t support that direction but the party had already made its decision, and I had been nominated. Looking back now, I believe I should have aligned with the will of my people.”
He tied the PDP’s poor showing in Delta during the presidential election to that disconnect and emphasized that, despite his loyalty to the party, there was strong Southern interest in producing the next president.

ReplyDeleteBend over and touch your toes for any belle face.
ReplyDeletePolitics of the stomach.
ReplyDeleteI think the PDP is now seeing the worth of Wike who did not just finance the party but galvanized it. From little local governments to statehouse and federal legislature, the party felt his succour just as APGA has been financed by the state government and every other party really.
ReplyDeleteAtiku is a seasonal customer who wants just one thing. He has no concern for team players and it shows in the party's poor outings at the subnational level since Wike has taken a back seat except when setting traps and his stooge has no understanding of politics.
Imagine a man who carried a national party for 8 years plus being ganged up against at the primaries over his colleagues ' ego and Atiku's cheap excuse that he rezoned the presidency to the north when it wasn't given to his preferred southern region. Is sub-regional zoning in the party's constitution? Why not use your heavy purse, pull and pool to back the preferred subregion of your choice the way Tinubu did in 2015?
The worst idea would be for PDP to head to court against the governors. You are lucky they are leaving in peace. If you have 3-4 wealthiest states stuck in PDP for the next election, they will be worse than Wike, delivering their states to the president and bastardizing your primaries. PDP never complained when elected officials defected to their camp.
Atiku is not looking for any coalition but actually party hunting since the coast of PDP is no longer clear and he knows it. With unwilling governors caged in that party, they will strip him naked and flog him on the primary voting ground. They will crown Momodu as their candidate and will attend APC rallies in broad day light. A president giving you 3-5x what you were getting before, saving you from debt will not be ignored by anyone with sense. 27 whole states saved from bankruptcy due to reforms and you think they won't show love?
