The assault, which occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, is believed to be a reprisal by armed loyalists of notorious bandit leader Adamu Aliero.

Gunmen suspected to be militants on Friday ambushed the patrol team of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps at Igbomotoru community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, killing a yet-to-be identified officer. A community source told Daily Trust that the patrol squad was returning from a clampdown operation on illegal bunkering sites in the area when the incident happened.

The Federal Government will begin a nationwide flood awareness campaign in May 2025 to educate and sensitise Nigerians on the risks and safety measures related to flooding. Oyo State Police Command, on Sunday, confirmed the arrest of the three suspected armed robbers in connection with the hijacking of a truck loaded with 45,000 litres of the Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol on Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode road. NiMet’s weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, predicted slight dust haze would be expected over the Northern region, with the possibility of afternoon or evening thunderstorms in parts of Adamawa, Taraba, and Kaduna States.
