    2. “Money is good” is the national philosophy & chorus of Nigeria. It doesn’t matter how, where, etc you get it. Could be from the blackmailing extorting as an anonymous blog, from fraud & shady dealing, etc “just get money. E get why”. Do you see Bill gates, Dangote, Ote$ flaunt money?

The other day the goverment asked the celebrant’s mom to pay N30mil as tax (less than $25k) she was complaining that Lagos state tax requirements was unreasonable. What has happened in Nigeria is really strange. All voices of reason are now bullied, insulted and tagged as haters when many of us don’t even know the players but are social commentators for a better society. Ever wondered why the blackmailing blog is inactive when the celebrant is busy? The blog posts half a story, contacts victims then discontinues the story when they pay up. A society that does not ask questions will eventually be destroyed.

Has anyone really asked where the money to throw the large parties came from seeing the actress has only acted in a handful of movies in the past years? The rush to bring out a movie few months ago to cover up doesn’t justify the profligate spending! The same folks crying that CBEX closed last week are “ooh in and aah in” the ostentation this week. The trouble with Nigeria is as much a leadership issue as it is a huge followership issue. The followers are ignorant & uneducated.✌🏾

    4. 12:12 on which of the businesses should she bring the tax of 30mil from? Tax payment should be from the particular business she's running in Lagos and that business should be generating up to that amount demanded by the government before she can pay such amount. I may own a shop in Lagos and still run other businesses elsewhere, and the government won't expect me to pay tax out of my other streams of income when they know that business I registered with them can't generate that amount of money.

    8. It was so obvious that she is gistlover, used the page to make herself more popular. Disappeared to plan and arrange wedding.
She will be back to her page in a few weeks after the fun has settled.
      Gistlover deceived too many people.

    9. @Slim Shady, income tax can be on business or PERSONAL income or Property. Even if your business is in another state, as long as you pay yourself an income in a state, that income is taxable in your state of residence. All your businesses pay you a salary or you get capital gains. I hope I explained it. Thank you.

  16. Congrats to the newly weds.
Not hating but it seems the level of illiteracy in Nigeria is on another level! Advertising on a billboard in Times Square is a matter of financing it, like any other billboard. Nobody is asking for the source of anyone’s money, the end always justifies the means in Nigeria. Make money or die trying, even if you extort via your blog, blackmail, kill, steal. Nobody will ask questions. Yet they complain about corrupt leaders? Why should your politicians take you serious?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry like late Princess Diana and King Charles weddings were streamed globally and watched all over the world. Maybe rightlyso. Britain is a global top 10 economy, the late Queen Elizabeth was the Head of state of three top global economies: (UK, Canada and Australia). Their cousins in America control the largest economy on earth. Is it that Nigerian youths have lost their sense of soberness? Like Paul said, “O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you?” We are happy for them, weddings are a part of life but the mass hysteria over “imported everything” speaks of an ignorant and unserious populace. No offense. Everything we brag about in Nigeria is imported. Down to flowers! Yet we complain about $to Naira rate. You cannot eat your cake and have it.

Herdsmen and terrorists are on rampage in Benue, like many parts of Nigeria yet the youths are backslapping over the spend & ostentation of a Private wedding? What is the matter with the πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬youths? What happened to the intelligentsia, the intellectual class if they still exist in Nigeria? There is nothing new under the sun, there will be more weddings more ostentatious than this, trust me before the year runs out. In typical Nigerian “my Mercedes is bigger than yours” fashion, many will now steal, loot, extort, etc to throw a bigger party, but why corrupt the entire information arm of a country with paid bloggers forcing this on timelines while suppressing most news on herdsmen attack. Shouldn’t the masses demand some level of responsibility from the Nigerian press?

However it’s interesting to read illiterates on Nigerian SM assume that a Times square 30-second commercial somehow means a wedding has gone “global “ or that US journalists are covering it! The level of ignorance of the Nigerian youths is alarming. Has any of them ever been to times square? Do they understand what the American press is? Is it the Press here that barely covers any international news of importance that will focus on a wedding of some debutante Nigerians?

I was hoping SDK blog with the significantly more educated BVs will be more sophisticated and not give in to the mass hysteria of a distracted people escaping the harsh realities of life, the killings in Benue and other pressing socio-economic realities into mass hysteria, to the joy of the corrupt political class. Who did this to Nigerian youths? Omg! There was a time the youths were like college students in the US, more concerned about the issues that impact the future & the larger society than the revelings of an “8-day wedding ceremony”. I noticed that sane voices are tagged haters, some ignorant ones even resort to cursing them; the joke is on you. The party is over, for now. The masses are back from dreamland, back to living on $5 a day, back to kidnappings, dirty streets, corrupt ruling class etc. Someone will soon throw a bigger party, then another etc. O ma se!

Don’t spew jargon under my comment or curse, all curses spoken against my honest heartfelt non malicious comment must return to sender in Jesus name. We can’t all be deluded. We have Trump issues here, but we have been demonstrating non-stop against his policies. Dangote’s daughter wedded & Bill Gates was there, Temi the billionaire daughter got married with no display. ✌🏾

    2. People know everything you have written about but ppl also love a distraction from life’s trials and tribulations. Some ppl needed to see this wedding to live vicariously through it. Some needed it to give them hope that they may one day walk down the aisle and commit themselves to someone. Some needed it to help rekindle the passion of their cold marriage. Some needed it to remind them of their own forgotten wedding day memory. As useless as you may view the wedding extravagance to be, for someone else it could have been the oasis in their desert.

Today, folks will get back to the realities of their lives and by next week the celebrations will start fading from the memories of even the attendees. The couple will have to face each other and get about living their own life as a couple. In the grand scheme of things, the distraction was only for a moment.
      Life goes on.

    5. Weddings have always been a cause for societal celebration because it celebrates love and humans are drawn to love, indian weddings are even worse. Also the people celebrating - Iyabo Ojo and daughter, are not public office holders, so we know they make the most of their money via showbiz (acting, influencing and social media) and this wedding will generate more income for them, as they will most likely get deals and discounts on everything. They are in the fame circle so most of the guests are also showbiz people, so blogs will use them to generate more clicks and more money. I personally wouldnt want such a wedding, but then, showbiz people are mainly extroverts so they are used to and enjoy cameras around them. Also better they spend this in Naija than carrying it off to a destination wedding and enriching another country, when those people will never bring their own weddings to Nigeria. As for the source of her hubby's money, he is not Nigerian and therefore not answerable to our jurisdictions. Iyabo herself doesn't live a flashy life or anything except this wedding where she decided to go all out, as a proud mother, and that in itself is not a crime.

Regarding the NY times thingy, it's even possible someone did that for them as a wedding gift. I laughed it off when I saw it. But lets be honest. The reason some Nigerians will celebrate it is the same reason you left Nigeria to go live abroad. Societal low self esteem stemming from national failure. As long as Nigeria remains under-developed, Nigerians will always prefer and adore things from a developed country over their own. From education, to visa, to healthcare, to material goods. I dare you to reject an full-funded opportunity to study in the US, or healthcare in the US when deathly sick, or visa to visit or citizenship-- you most likely won't. If your spouse wants to gift you $1000 or 1000naira, which will you take? Come on, let's be honest. Our anger should be toward the people who destroyed Nigeria - of course their weddings wont have such display cos they don't enjoy societal good will, they know that the people are mad at them for their policies which destroyed Nigeria.

    The great SHIFT!.
You know, when Regina married Pa Ned.

  21. When you talk now they would tag you ''hater''. It comes to a point where ''too much'' becomes a circus. There were well meaning Nigerians of repute who have graced that same board, and no one is talking about it with solid professional prowess. One is Shola Adesakin of Smart Stewards recently. No one is hating any one but enough of this charade. If Lagos state brings her mother a bill commensurate to the wedding now- she will start shouting and bringing hell down. I honestly wish them all the best but a lot of things are going on in Nigeria. Yes they are not the cause but sometimes, you need to catch your fun and just leave the rest. What is the motive in all these displays? E ma Binu o eyin fans Iyabo Ojo
