The President specifically commended the National Assembly's leadership—Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, other principal officers and members—for prioritising the security and welfare of Rivers State people above partisan interests and other considerations.
He further acknowledged the lawmakers' diligent review of classified security briefings, underscoring the urgent need for intervention to prevent further escalation.
"The crisis in Rivers State was at a perilous tipping point, threatening the security of vital oil and gas installations and undermining the national economy and the significant progress we have made in the reforms initiated since our administration commenced in May 2023," President Tinubu remarked.
"As I detailed in my address to the nation on 18 March, the near-total collapse of governance, threats to federal economic assets, and the risk of widespread violence left no room for hesitation. This emergency measure is a lifeline to safeguard livelihoods, secure critical infrastructure, and restore democratic accountability."
The President affirmed that the six-month emergency will empower the newly-appointed Sole Administrator to stabilise Rivers State, address systemic breakdowns, and facilitate dialogue among conflicting parties.
President Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration's commitment to deepening collaboration with the National Assembly to advance peace, economic resilience, and equitable development across Nigeria.
"Today's decision exemplifies what our nation can achieve when unity of purpose and patriotism guide the action of leaders. We remain steadfast in pursuing a safer, more prosperous Nigeria—one where every citizen's potential is safeguarded and nurtured," he said.
The President thanked all Nigerians for their understanding and urged all stakeholders to support the restoration of peace in Rivers State.
🤣🤣🤣 You are only Patriotic when you do what the Government says.....As if there was going to be anything different....I am sure they would have sung the "on your mandate" chant...

ReplyDeleteThey were given $25k, $10k and $5k depending on rank. A terrible situation the country is in.
ReplyDeleteWhen they ask you for proof now, you will look down.
DeleteThis sounds like NTA reporting. How did they arrive at the votes?
ReplyDeleteOf course. Rubber stamping of impunity. 🤪🤪🤪
ReplyDeleteThe Supreme Court decided that the statutory allocations due to Rivers State should be withheld because the Governor did not recognize the House of Assembly, and did not present the budget before the said House for passage.
ReplyDeletePresident Tinubu claims that Governor Fubara, who had written to the same House to enable him present the budget, has failed to obey the Supreme Court.
The same Tinubu went ahead to appoint a Sole Administrator after suspending the Governor, Deputy Governor, and the members of the House of Assembly.
Now we are reading that the withheld allocations will be released to the Sole Administrator who is nothing but an impostor concocted capriciously by the President.
So, the allocations were withheld because there was no House of Assembly or the Governor did not recognize the House, and did not present the budget, but you have now suspended both the Governor and the House and proceeded to appoint a Sole Administrator and handed over allocations to the Sole Administrator.
How do you reconcile this?
If it was right for the allocations to be withheld because there was no House of Assembly or due to the governor’s refusal to present budget before the House, on what legal, moral, or logical basis are you releasing the same allocations to a Sole Administrator after suspending the Governor and the House?
Is the Sole Administrator a constitutional substitute for the House of Assembly and the Governor?
Is this shenanigans all about stealing the allocations of Rivers State? Is that what this impunity is all about?
Which budget will the Sole Administrator now use to appropriate the allocations of Rivers State?
State funds and allocations cannot be appropriated without being enabled by an Appropriation Law. Sections 120 and 121 of the Constitution are very explicit on this.
Tinubu has defecated on the Constitution of Nigeria.~ Inibehe Effiong.
