Nigeria's Govt Opposes National Assembly’s Proposal For 200 New Universities

The Nigerian Government has expressed strong opposition to the National Assembly's proposal to establish nearly 200 new universities across the country. Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, highlighted concerns about the system becoming overburdened, emphasizing the need to strengthen existing institutions rather than creating new ones.
Nigeria has 278 universities, including 64 federal, 67 state, and 147 private institutions.
