Myanmar Earthquake Death Toll Soars To Over 1,000

​A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar near Mandalay on March 28, 2025, resulting in significant casualties and damage. As of March 29, the death toll in Myanmar has surpassed 1,000, with 2,376 injured and 30 missing.

The earthquake's epicenter was approximately 20 km from Mandalay, Myanmar's second-largest city. The tremors were also felt in neighboring countries, notably Thailand, where a building collapse in Bangkok led to at least nine deaths and left over 100 people missing. ​

Rescue operations are ongoing, with international aid teams from China, Russia, India, Malaysia, and South Korea, along with UN personnel, assisting in the efforts. However, challenges persist due to Myanmar's ongoing civil conflict, which hampers communication and access for relief operations.
