They were charged to court over the Ibadan tragic stampede which happened during a children's festive party in December 2024..
At least 35 children died....
Speaking in a live coverage on Facebook, the Attorney General said:
“It was an unfortunate incident that led to the death of many. And you see, in law, whenever death occurs and the circumstances are not natural, the law will take its course. So the state responded by filing charges against the persons implicated in the investigation.
In the course of doing that, we actually wanted to prosecute but the affected persons showed empathy. They showed compassion. And as far as human beings can do, they try to persuade the feelings of the affected parties.
And the circumstance, we felt, the essence of prosecution is not to kill people or persecute them. It is in the interest of justice to discontinue these charges, and that is what happened today."

ReplyDeleteI wonder what the principal and his family have to say regarding this issue as he isn't in any way at fault. I wonder what the prophetess and others who give in this way would think of doing such a thing next time.
You'll find that all the families including those who unfortunately lost loved ones have been eating since December yet, for decades, we keep singing this song of hardship, hunger, lack as if these same people people are not earning, building, opening petty businesses, loaning others money, buying secondhand clothing and holding ceremonies everyday, even in the most underresourced areas of the country. Let us not because we disagree with government, not point out the recklessness of these parents. It wasn't the government or the organisers that were throwing their own children over walls and giving them unsupervised as deposit to agents for a cut. No children hawking, farming or in mechanic shedsto support their families were killed in this stampede. Many of the people we see on TV started from such humble beginnings yet, every government looking to adjust education and laws to our reality is talked down upon.
It's not only politicians who are greedy. May the souls of the departed rest in peace and may God comfort all those bereaved.
They should never have arrested them
ReplyDeleteDon’t arrest folks and think later
It was a sad day but not their fault it happened
Whose fault then? It was not a force majeur. It was a human error and thus someone should be held responsible, people died for God's sake. Nigeria jaga jaga, phones calls have been exchanged now AG is talking nonsense. Useless country where the rich is never held accountable. But if na poor man matter na every body go de orgasm.
