Gospel Singer Panam Percy Reveals Why He Rejected A £24m Record Deal

Gospel singer Panam Percy Paul reveals that  he turned down a music record deal of £24m that came with the condition that he removes the name of Jesus from his music.

The renowned songwriter and singer said it happened in 1995. Part of the condition of the deal was that he would limit the mention of the name Jesus in his songs, a compromise he wasn’t willing to accept so he let go of the lucrative deal.

The singer disclosed that at that time, the deal was for three years and it was worth 7 billion naira at that time. Accepting that would compromise his Christian faith, the label suggested that he replace the name Jesus with other aliases such as ‘righteous one’, ‘greatest lover’.

The singer recalled what the catch was ‘can you reduce the number of times you call the name of Jesus in your songs? One of the record owners went further by saying you don’t actually need to mention Jesus. You can call him other names’

Shocked by their outrageous request they are demanding from him he told them ‘you can keep your money while I keep my name’.

The singer also condemned the rate at which gospel music is being commercialized. Record labels and marketers dictate to artists the kind of music they should put out there with many telling them to add the speaking in tongues in their songs.
‘Today, the extreme is that the gospel music industry has now become a music industry, the industry now dictates to the ministers what to do, how to sing and when to sing’

  2. Mark 8:36, "What shall he profit a man if he gains the whole world and lose his soul?"

A family once employed me to train their children in English, they told me to remove Jesus out of Class despite telling them before they brought me onboard that I am a bonafide child of God.. no pretense. Me that if I yawn alone, I'll say "Thank You Jesus".

One thing I know for sure is that, if the world hate Jesus this much, then there's something special about him.

Thank You PP, these are the role models God wants us to emulate.

    2. So he should take the money and deny CHRIST indirectly?? Everybody must not listen to his music, if the very few that listen accept JESUS CHRIST that's good enough.

Jesus Christ defeated Satan during His temptation in the wilderness and rejected Satan's offer of all the world's glory.
