Chairman, Governance Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos State, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, has said the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the state assembly and election of Mojisola Meranda on January 13, 2025 was wrong. The APC leader stated that whereas the lawmakers have no absolute powers to remove or install their leaders, neither the GAC nor the party was consulted.


 A Chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Hon. Attom Magira has sued the Borno State government over the demolition of his multi-million naira shopping mall in the state. The four-storey building, located at Sir Kashim Ibrahim Road, opposite State low-cost housing estate, Maiduguri, was demolished by the state government.

Tragedy struck on Saturday morning along the Benin-Auchi highway as 12 passengers were burnt to death in an accident involving a Toyota Hiace bus and a truck. Cyril Mathew, Edo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who confirmed the incident, said the crash occurred around 5 a.m. at Igueoviobo community, near an army checkpoint on the highway.

 The Police Command in Edo State has arrested two suspects in connection with a violent attack on Iguikpe community in Benin City which left two people critically injured. The attack, allegedly led by a former community leader, resulted in sustaining gunshot wounds by the incumbent youth leader, Victor Ogierioba, and another resident, Efe Agbaoghogho.

Sokoto State on Saturday witnessed another fire outbreak at the popular Kara Market. The fire, which started in the early hours of the day, engulfed the entire market, reducing several shops to ashes.

Members of the National Youth Service Corps on Saturday expressed their disapproval of the Federal Government’s persistent failure to implement the payment of the N77,000 allowance. The Federal Government had approved an increase in the corps members’ monthly allowance from N33,000 to N77,000, effective July 2024. However, it is yet to be implemented.

 An Abia State High Court presided over by Justice LTC Eruba has stopped the enforcement of the purported suspension of the former Senate President and the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the People’s Democratic Party, Adolphus Wabara. In a court order made available to Sunday, Justice Eruba restrained Abia PDP leadership, led by Elder Abraham Amah, from enforcing the said suspension.

 The Lagos State Police Command has arrested at least 35 traffic robbery suspects in a series of operations conducted within a week, spanning areas from Ajah to Elemoro. Confirming the arrests on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the suspects were apprehended during different tactical operations in the Ajah area.

 Two yet-to-be-identified persons lost their lives in an accident on Saturday night along the Sagamu-Ikorodu Expressway. It was gathered from a traffic update by the Commandant General of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Seni Ogunyemi, that several people were injured in the crash.

 The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency says it has successfully contained a raging fire that engulfed sections of a storey-building housing Ago Medical Centre, off Ago Palace Way, Okota. The Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement in the early hours of Saturday.
