Corps Member Who Called Out President Tinubu Apologises For Calling Lagos ''Smelly''

Ushie Rita Uguamaye, a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Lagos State, posted a TikTok video criticizing President Bola Tinubu's administration.

In the video, she expressed frustration over Nigeria's economic challenges, labeling President Tinubu a "terrible president" and questioning government efforts to address rising inflation and economic hardship. She also highlighted personal financial struggles, stating that her monthly NYSC allowance was insufficient to cover basic expenses, leading to increased transportation costs.

She also called Lagos state smelly but has since tendered an apology...

There are debates ongoing, some say that as a corps member she had no right to call out the government because of what she signed in camp, others argue that she has freedom of speech to say her mind...

Lets bring that argument here...what do you think??

  1. Truly, she shouldn't have called out the evuulll govt as nysc is a paramilitary org hence, criticising the govt goes against their rules, however, I do not care cos all I see is her beauty and banging bod! ♥️

  2. This is funny. So cos she is a corps member, she shouldn't complain of how bad things are? Is she not affected? Allow people vent all they want.
I really hate it when people try to shut us up for complaining.

  3. It’s against the code of conduct for you to identify s as a corp member and speak against the government. You’re not permitted to comment, grant interviews and so on. They’re expected to remain neutral. This is usually taught at the orientation camp.

    1. Thank you o @ Icefishseller.
These people just like to make noise and not think deep about issues.
An NYSC member that is showing partisanship by openly supporting or criticising a government is likely to show biased when they are handling election and voting.

  9. Corp members are not civil servants. The Federal service laws don't apply to them. It is only the Nysc Bye laws. (2011 as amended).
They are still being paid 33k. Ordinary minimum wage hasn't been implemented for them.

They are private individuals that are entitled to their free speech, which is guaranteed under the Constitution.
I have taken my time to go through the said Nysc bye laws.
There is nothing there that prohibits a corper from expressing him/herself.

The only provision that comes close is that they should not engage with the press without the consent of the State Cordinator. But this is in Section 18 and only applies to when they are still in camp! Outside camp, they can engage the press, if they want.

But she didn't even talk to the press. She only made a recording of herself talking about the situation of things.

Everything she said in the video is true. Cost of everything has escalated. The Government is not doing anything to address our plights.

    Where is the lie?

    2. Nocturnal and Phoenix, it is obvious that both of you are ignorant of the laws guiding the NYSC program. So better not to exhibit your ignorance on a public forum like this. If you are in employment, can you say exactly same words to your MD/CEO and about the company you work for? The NYSC is an FGN agency and corp members are "employees" of the FGN for the year of service. Pls you youths (millenials and Gen Zs) should apply wisdom in the way you think, talk and act. Everything is not about wokeness and social media attention.

    3. Anon 22:42, this isn't about wokeness.
I literally cited the law to you and even the exact section.

I've been a lawyer for more than 10 years, so I'm not one to just jump into issues without looking at it critically.
For you to even compare private employment with a Graduate Scheme like the Nysc shows that you lack the basic understanding of how institutional frameworks operate.

Please keep your advice to yourself.

  10. Why should she have to apologize for saying the place is smelly. All those ppl are shytting multiple times a day and they are farting too, add on all the animals, poor drainage and garbage disposal all under the searing sun, yes it will be smelly. Paris is smelly, London is smelly, LA is smelly. The more ppl living in a place the more smelly it will be.

    1. I don't get Mr abi Mrs Goke what do you mean by this your comment, why are you people so quick to attribute a woman's success especially a young woman to sugar daddies?
I work so hard, spend with caution and barely live well yet I'm always broke before the month runs out, Nigeria is really frustrating whether she living a lavish life or not

  16. Unfortunately she's on the wrong side of the law. What ever your argument are, always be objective and never loose guard. She gonna learn. After the publicity, comes the reality. πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„

  17. Everyone has the right to freedom of speech, corp member or not and besides she spoke the absolute truth. That is why Nigeria is lagging behind all other countries in the world, where you people see white, you call it black even when the government is busy embezzling your funds and not been accountable and responsible to it's citizens. Suffering and staying silent. Make una continue... the girl should obey nysc bye laws when the govt is not obeying the laws of the land. Nonsense!

  18. I've never been to Lagos before so I don't know if it smells but every other thing she said is correct
