Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, says he was not rejected by the National Assembly as a ministerial nominee. Speaking on Monday during an interview on Arise TV, El-Rufai said President Bola Tinubu simply “changed his mind on the nomination”.


. The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Gbolahan Adebayo, a 23-year-old man, for allegedly beating his girlfriend to death at Ijedodo in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State. It was learnt that the incident occurred during the deceased’s visit to the suspect’s house on Friday.

 Public hearing on the four tax reform bills commenced in the Senate yesterday with key stakeholders throwing their weights behind them. Senate President Godswill Akpabio told the stakeholders at the hearing that less than 30% of Nigerians pay tax.

 A Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission and the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Umar Damagum, from taking any further steps that could adversely affect the interests of the party’s embattled National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. Justice Inyang Ekwo issued the order yesterday at the resumed hearing in a suit Anyanwu filed over the threat to his seat in the party.

. The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has suspended Senator Kawu Sumaila, lawmaker representing Kano South Senatorial District. He was suspended alongside three prominent members of the party, including Ali Madakin Gini, Sani Abdullahi Rogo, and Kabiru Alhassan Rurum.

 Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Abdullahi Abbas, has said the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, is not a member of the party. Abdullahi Abbas stated this while responding to the swipe Yusuf Abdullahi Ata took at him recently during an interview on BBC Hausa.

 Two residents of Okpekpe community in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, identified as Batemue Ebo and Christopher Bello were killed, on Monday by suspected herders. They were said to have been killed while in their farms.

Marketers of petroleum products have expressed concerns that the alleged harassment of tanker drivers by officials of the Lagos State Government could lead to fuel scarcity in a few days, as some filling stations were shut in various parts of the state on Monday. They also vowed to shut down operations in the South-West if the 30 tankers arrested by the Lagos State Government are not released.
