For me, I can count how many times I have touched each of them since birth. I hardly spank. I believe in counselling. I started talking to my kids when they were as young as 4yrs old. I would sit down with them and advise them when they do something wrong, if I am around.
I have warned my wife several times that she should reduce how she beats them. Reason is I believe that too much beating is not the solution to whatever bad behavior they exhibit. I am not saying you should spare the rod and spoil the child, no, I'm saying you should not do it often and it should be in moderation when you do it, not the kind of beating that would leave marks on the child.
Growing up, I noticed that children that were beaten too often were sad children, stubborn and hardened..

I am an example.
My dad would beat me and hit my head on the wall several times. This gave me serious migraine for years and even affected one of my eyes. I was always angry, fighting and stubborn as a kid. After all, it is beating that I will receive.
As a teenager, I would beat a whole family including their dad.
Now, with the way I'm raising my children, I can see a huge difference - happy and well-behaved children.
Try the counseling approach and see how it goes

It's depends on my mood sometimes I spank or give punishment( kneeling and raising of hands) or I don't allow him play games and watch tv and lastly we have conversations.
