I was posted to Nasarawa State this was 2005-2006. I served in the state capital, Lafia. I didn't really enjoy my stay but I got a huge blessing from Lafia. I met my mother-in-law in Lafia. She came from the east for Omugwu while i was serving. We became friends and she started coaching me in our dialect as I was not very fluent in our Abia Igbo but very fluent in Owerri as per my mama na Owerri. After service I went back to Lagos. She gave her last child my phone number to be checking up on me. Na so my friend last born take marry me for 2010.

ReplyDeleteRedeployed after camp to Bayelsa, and had a blast as well! Served with INEC, was home with my parents there (as such didn't spend on rent or food), I was leader of my CDS (Gender, Equality and Justice). I really had fun, even though Bayelsa is a very underdeveloped state tbh.
Still in touch with some of the peeps I became friends with in my service year. Batch B, 2011! Great memories mehn.....

ReplyDeleteOsun state - the rural community school was very hospitable. And I outdid myself preparing the senior class for their SSCE - Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics & Economics. I was later pleaded upon to take the whole SSS 1 to 3, dem wan kill me with work. The extra pay was very very rewarding, plus the tutorials - it was a big moment as a female teaching core science subjects in a way that excited the students.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed my stay because I loved trying out different, new cultures
Food was soo cheap, the people were so accommodating and the environment and people were peaceful.
There was so much to eat and drink
Made new friends with the indigenes and Corpers alike
My favorite soup then was Worowo soup, enjoyed the bush meat and pounded yam
We used to go to Erin Ijesha for sight seeing and visit Ado every weekend
Lived in one of the houses owned by an Oba, solid house, a room self contain apartment with very little money
Travelled there once to see a friend after we left
The people there treated us (Corpers) like Kings and Queens... LOL
There was so much peace and rest of mind as well, one of our fellow Corpers then used to leave his apartment without locking his door and he goes to work and comes back.. Lol
Nice place
Posted to Rivers state for camp, later redeployed to Lagos. Oh my God, I really enjoyed camp. I wish I can have such experience again in my life. I only redeployed to Lagos to work. I served in a Law firm in Ikoyi. With a reasonable pay plus my 33k Nysc alawee. Mehn, I really enjoyed NYSC.
ReplyDeleteNeesolah
Sounds like it was an enjoyable experience for everyone. I too enjoyed my stay in Gombe and Benue State. Those states retain a special place in my heart. I m happy pay has been increased even though it's causing aggro from substantive staff.
ReplyDeleteI served in 1988 and I was a returnee from ndi abroad. I was posted to the east my papa said no way, so Lagos it was. My salary was 500 naira from the government topped up by 1000 naira from the company I was assigned to. Camp was greaat! The night market, the early morning drills and the paaarties and newly opened nightclubs like Faze 2, Fantasy and Lords? were lit. I remember as part of our training crossing a river and one of my friends fainted as pe ajebutter. The soldiers took turns carrying her and we her friends were shrieking and we had to be supported too. LOL
