Babafemi Ojudu, Former Special Adviser on Political Matters to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has disclosed how he plotted the impeachment of Ayo Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State...
Ojudu disclosed that he plotted and scripted Fayose’s impeachment with the support of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The former presidential aide disclosed this while featuring on Edmund Obilo’s podcast, State Affairs, which was published on Thursday morning.
According to Ojudu: “I plotted and scripted the impeachment of Fayose in Ekiti. I used Obasanjo and when he realized it, he fought back against me.
“I had an agreement and signed that Fayose should be impeached but make sure his deputy is not. I took all the lawmakers to Lagos where I kept them in hotels and was feeding and taking them around.
“I was not a senator, I was a journalist who had money and my friends gave me money. They were not happy with him, I saw that weak link and I exploited it.
“Obasanjo was angry and gave the deputy governor soldiers to return to Ekiti and proclaim herself as governor. When she got there, I called people to resist her and they had no alternative but to declare an emergency.
“Fayose sued me for libel and Falana was my lawyer, I went to court and presented my facts, by the time we finished, Justice Daramola told Fayose ‘you have no honour and integrity.'”
Fayose became the second governor of Ekiti on 29 May 2003, after defeating the incumbent Governor, Niyi Adebayo in the gubernatorial elections.
His tenure was cut short as a result of the impeachment on 16 October, 2006.

ReplyDeleteThe guy has just published a book.
ReplyDeleteHe believed his Principal (Osinbajo) would assist him in launching the book so that he can make money like Femi Adeshina and Garuba Sheu did( Buhari assisted them for the book launch).
Unfortunately, Osinbajo is not in Tinubu group and not in Buhari group, so he cannot muster people to support his book.
As such, he has no option than to begin to grant controversial press interviews so that people can go read his book.
Despite being a former journalist, when he became a senator and later an aide in Aso rock, he did not do well for his constituency ( media) as such most media houses did not want to give him free airtime to promote his books , so he has to use a podcast.
Be good to people when you are up, don't forget your humble beginnings.
Many people commenting have no idea of the Genesis of this saga and what Ojudu represents in the anals of journalism and activism.
ReplyDeleteHe is narrating the intrigues of turning a crooked son against a calculating father who imposed him on Ekiti for selfish purposes. The moment OBJ realized, he could not renege as Ojudu had played them with the instrument they used to play the state. Even till now, Baba and Fayose's relationship never balance.
This shows the power of strategy, resourceful and trustworthy contacts - those who supported him and financed the alatenuje house members also took a risk crossing Baba. There was also a series of assassinations of possible candidates at the time so Ojudu took great risk to free Ekiti from the man who's chicken no dey shit.
Baba is not the sportsman though. From Ayoka Adebayo to general Olurin to Segun Oni, he always wanted to prove something in Ekiti, looking to break their dyed in the wool progressive leanings.
You too, rise in your ranks and rally your resources to make positive changes.
