Retail outlets owned by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited have raised the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, from N965 to N990 per litre in the Federal Capital Territory. They also increased their price in Lagos from N925 to N960 per litre. This is even as the price of crude oil showed a marginal decline on Tuesday

 Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed at least seven people who were mostly traders and injured 11 at Ngalda cattle and main market in Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State. The suspected bandits stormed the weekly market in Ngalda the headquarters of Fika LG around 6pm shooting sporadically and robbing shops and cattle markets.

Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, has vowed to tackle the buying and selling of Naira notes, which has become widespread in the country. The CBN Governor made this vow in a keynote address at the inaugural Stakeholders’ Conference of the Committee of Heads of Banks Operations in Lagos, with the theme “Commoditization of Naira: The Way Forward.”

 Armed terrorists suspected to be members of Boko Haram invaded Kawuri village in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State and set ablaze three patrol vehicles belonging to members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and another three armoured tankers belonging to the military. It was gathered on Tuesday that the incident which took place on Sunday night also caused many residents to flee into the bush for safety.

 Men of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested five suspected cultists for allegedly beating a 34-year-old man, Rowland Horsfall, to death after accusing him of generating a fake alert for hard drugs he purchased from them in the Trans-Amadi area of Port Harcourt. The spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

 Portugal has indicated plans to increase the purchases of Liquefied Natural Gas from Nigeria and the United States as part of efforts to reduce dependence on the already dwindling supplies from Russia. A report by Reuters quoting the Portuguese Environment Minister Maria da Graca Carvalho on Tuesday said the decision was taken following sanctions on Russian oil and gas imported through pipelines.

 A Kaduna State High Court again denied ex-Chief of Staff to former Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Alhaji Bashir Sa’idu, bail. The court ordered that he be sent back to remand in the Correctional Facility after being charged with 10-Counts bordering on alleged money laundering, embezzlement and stealing.

A former Upper Shari’a Court Judge, Mahmoud Shehu, has received bail from a Magistrate Court in Zaria, Kaduna State, after accusations of attacking a blind housewife.
The court, led by Senior Magistrate Ibrahim Adamu Salisu, granted bail to Shehu on Tuesday, requiring him to present two sureties who are civil servants at grade level 10.

The guarantors must provide their promotion letters, passport-sized photos, home addresses, and contact numbers.
Furthermore, Shehu is required to pay ₦100,000 as a condition of the bail.
The magistrate decided that not fulfilling these requirements would lead to Shehu being held at the correctional facility until the next hearing, which is set for February 11, 2025.
Shehu was re-indicted on allegations of criminal trespass, assault, and application of force, purportedly breaching Sections 327, 237, and 239 of the Penal Code Law of Kaduna State, 2017.
The prosecutor, Adamu Abubakar, stated that the event took place on September 6, 2024, when the former judge allegedly broke into the residence of the visually impaired housewife, secured the main entrance, and attacked her physically.
Two women who tried to intervene were reportedly assaulted during the event. The victim incurred injuries and received treatment at the PHC Tudun Wada.
Shehu refuted the allegations when asked by the court.
