Rapper Speed Darlington Charged In Court Amid Ongoing Feud With Colleague Burna Boy

Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington has been formally charged in court following his second arrest in two months related to an ongoing dispute with Afrobeats star Burna Boy.
The case, which stems from allegations of cyberstalking and defamation, is now before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, was arrested on November 27 during a performance in Owerri, Imo State. His lawyer, Stanley Alieke of Law Capitol, confirmed the formal charges and expressed frustration over the rapper’s continued detention, arguing that he is entitled to bail as defamation is no longer a criminal offense in Nigeria.

The legal battle between the two artists dates back to October when Darlington was first arrested for allegedly cyberstalking Burna Boy. The dispute escalated after Darlington mocked Burna Boy’s association with American rapper Diddy, whose legal troubles with the FBI made headlines. Darlington’s social media posts, including a diss track titled “Baby Oil,” appeared to provoke the Grammy award-winning singer.
In a video retrieved, Speed Darlington demanded a public apology from Burna Boy’s mother and N12 million in compensation, stating that only then would he cease his public criticisms.

Alieke refuted claims that his legal team failed to properly advise Darlington, stating they prioritize crisis prevention by monitoring his social media and advising him to remove risky posts. “I firmly believe in crisis prevention over crisis management,” Alieke said.

  5. I think this has gone too far.

Yes, he defamed him, and he was incarcerated but it shouldn't undermine his freedom to bail and right to a lawyer.

I think this has gone too far enough; he has obviously learnt his lesson.

    A case of oppression now.

Burna pls let him go for the sake of his old mother.

    Let there be peace bikonu.

    1. My dear, but Speed didn't think about his mother when he was running his mouth na. See eh, someone has to be the scapegoat, so other keypad warriors will learn. You can't defame one, and go scot free.

  14. It is better every Nigerians read the constitution at least even without legal interpretation so as to know what is entails and conditions on which bail are giving so that after they are granted bail ,they won't use their stupidity as an excuse for the bail to be revoked or more stringent conditions put on top of earlier bail.ignorance is not an excuse in law

  16. Lawyer fees are too expensive for me to go get entangled with someone who is far wealthier and have far greater resources to endure a legal battle. If my azz is not on their level, the last thing I am looking to do is to get into a legal fracas with someone wealthy. Now, Speedy out here spending his last coins on legal fees while Burna is travelling the world and living large, sipping his champagne and asking for the grey poupon. Speedy, find a way to end this because you are going to be broke before it ends and you are not even fighting a fight for justice, you actually defamed the man's character. Please seek for mediation and tender a public apology and be on your way.
