The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has disclosed that the federal government is set to develop a national policy on bullying to address the incessant challenge of students being bullied across schools in Nigeria. This is coming following the many cases of bullying recorded across secondary schools, which have caused outrage from parents and Nigerians.




The Senate on Wednesday declared the seat of Governor Monday Okpebholo vacant. The Senate also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a bye-election to fill the vacancy. The seat of Okpebholo, who represented Edo Central Senatorial District, became vacant following his election and inauguration as the Governor of Edo State last month.

 President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday met with the German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who is in Nigeria on a three-day state visit. He was received by Tinubu and members of the Executive Council. Steinmeier was also welcomed with 21 gun salutes by the Brigade of Guards.

 Justice M. A. Adegbola of an Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan yesterday granted an interim order restraining human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, his publishers and their re-publishers from further publication and sale of the book, titled: ‘Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System’. The book allegedly contains libelous content against the founder of Afe Babalola University in Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola (SAN).

 President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians not to expect a “magical response” to the prevailing electricity challenges in the country as the existing power infrastructure has been on ground for decades. Speaking during the visit of German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Tinubu highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at fostering a business-friendly environment and attracting foreign investment in the country.

 In a landmark move for regional energy integration, Dangote Refinery and Neptune Oil jointly announced the first-ever export of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest oil refinery, to Cameroon. Dangote, in a statement on Wednesday, said the milestone achieved was as a result of the strategic collaboration between the two companies.

 Director-General of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has called for collective efforts in the search for Yahaya Farouk, a corps member, who went missing in Ikuru Town, Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State. During his visit to the community, on Wednesday, the DG urged residents to support security agencies in locating the missing corps member.

The Naira on Wednesday depreciated to N1,600 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,585 per dollar on Tuesday. Similarly, the Naira depreciated to N1,545 per dollar in the official foreign exchange market.

 The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has warned criminal elements to pack out of the country, emphasising that the Nigerian Army under his leadership was coming with full force. Oluyede said this while addressing the troops of the 1 Division Nigerian Army in Kaduna, when he paid a maiden operational visit on Wednesday.

Khalil Haqqani, Afghanistan’s Minister of Refugees and Repatriates Affairs and a senior Taliban leader, was killed in a suicide bombing at his ministry office in Kabul.

The attack, which took place as Haqqani was leaving his office, also claimed the lives of six others, according to sources in the Interior Ministry.

The Islamic State group (IS) has claimed responsibility for the bombing. An IS statement via its “Amaq” news agency reported that the attacker waited outside the minister’s office before detonating explosives as Haqqani exited.

Khalil Haqqani was a prominent figure in the Haqqani network, a powerful faction within the Taliban. He was designated a global terrorist by the United States, which had previously offered a $5 million reward for information leading to his arrest.
