A trainee herbalist, Ifagbenga Taiwo, has been taken into custody by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly slaughtering his 41-day-old son for ritual purposes in the Keesi area of Adatan, Abeokuta, the state capital. It was gathered that the incident occurred on Monday after the baby’s mother, Raimat Wasilat, laid him on a bed while washing clothes outside their home.


The Federal Capital Territory High Court, on Tuesday, refused to grant a bail application filed by the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, saying it was filed prematurely. Justice Maryann Anenih, while delivering the ruling said having been filed when the 1st defendant was neither in custody nor before the court, the instant application was incompetent.

 Bandits have abducted about 43 persons, mostly women and children, from the Kakidawa ward in the Gidan Goga district of Maradun Local Government Area, Zamfara State. Locals told journalists on Tuesday that the incident occurred at about 2 am on Sunday.

They noted that some of the charges on locally refined products were still in dollars, stressing that this affects the cost of the commodities.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has described as fake a circular that it authorised the sales of foreign exchange to Bureau De Change operators in the country.
The circular dated Tuesday, 10 December, had claimed that the apex bank sold $20,000 to each legible BDC operator at N1,300 per dollar rate.

Former lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye has expressed excitement over the decision of the Federal Capital Territory High Court on the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello’s money laundering case.
The FCT High Court, on Tuesday, remanded Bello in Kuje Correctional Centre pending his bail application.
Justice Maryann Anenih also adjourned hearing in the N110bn money laundering case brought against the former governor by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to January 29 and 30 and February 25 and 27 for hearing
Reacting, Dino posted “6 years ago, SDM predicted Yahaya Bello would end up in prison.
“Today, he will be spending Christmas in Kuje prison. All powers belong to God”.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, MOUAU, has petitioned President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the institution’s 57th inaugural lecture, scheduled for Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
In the petition, ASUU called for the cancellation of the lecture, alleging irregularities surrounding the professorship of the scheduled inaugural lecturer, Professor Raphael Echebiri.
