Speaking on Arise TV on Saturday morning, Soyombo claimed he was conducting an undercover investigation when he was arrested.
He revealed there was high security cover provided for oil bunkerers in the country.
“It would shock you the kind of people who escort illegal oil bunkerers out of Port-Harcourt.
“The Army spokesman already compromised my security by going online to say that they found illegal bunkerers.
“There are clean men in the military but we need to clean up the saboteurs who enable oil bunkerers to thrive.
“This is a new level for me that I need to do it. Rather than change my approach, I will rather stop. Maybe I have one, two, three undercover investigations and I will stop.
“It is not the fun of it but the situations we found ourselves in. Imagine the story I did on smugglers. People have to know that in their country they can be safe, and we need to expose these wrongdoings.
“The figure being put out in terms of crude oil theft are an underestimation of what’s happening. The crude we were to move was for 50,000 barrels. If the man who got annoyed that he wasn’t bribed didn’t talk, we would have had two trucks moved out.
“There is no institution that can say for a fact the barrels being lifted daily.
“It is not only oil bunkerers that are thieves but those who are also meant to supervise the sector. What we would need is an overhaul of the system,” Soyombo said.

He could be saying the truth.
ReplyDeleteThis isn't something new. Asari Dokubo said it right inside the presidential office on a live broadcast.
ReplyDeleteIf I say what I noticed & saw about this Port Harcourt refinery that was said to have started working, I may be traced and picked up. So many lies and covering going on for political gains. My uncle works in that refinery and I was there this week. The media reportage on what's happening there isn't the reality on ground.

Things are happening in Nigeria
Investigative journalism is not for the faint hearted. Fisayo, may the Lord protect you always.
The more you look, the less you see. πππ
ReplyDeleteExactly
DeleteWhen a presidential aspirant in PDP during the last campaign gave each delegate from the 774 local governments in Nigeria 30,000 dollars, where do we think that money came from?
ReplyDeleteUnder the very watch of security forces, this crude is exchanged for raw dollars on the high seas. Millions of dollars in raw cash are stashed in private homes across the country. All these from bunkering.
We must remember couple of years back when Equitorial Guinea had to apprehend a ship with over a million barrels of stolen crude that our Navy had escorted into international waters. It took the Guineans apprehending that ship before the Nigerian Navy could come out with mealy mouthed excuses on why the ship could leave Nigerian waters with stolen crude.
I'm just scared for thus guy's life. Naija crooks/polithievecians even police/army will not think twice before kpaing this guy
ReplyDeleteHe has done custodial service, customs and now the army.
DeleteHe says three more to go.
If we were related, he would be told: No mas.
He has made his name.
Let him go to the classroom.
Or write books.
Or get funded tours starting from the cities teaching the younger his stock in trade.
Nothing more for him to prove.
Nigerians are born brilliant and 'brilliant' in all their undertakings whether good or bad. Imagine the best brains worldwide, best and richest pastors, best scammers and ritualists, most corrupt nation with acute skill in sweeping the truth off the face of the earth while keeping a straight face. And when you talk, you disappear, case close. We deny this glaring truth but the whole wide world see us exactly as we are. Nothing dey do Nigeria and its citizens at all, na we by ourselves keep us in bondage. Na we go still deliver ourselves when we tire and ready to be great indeed.
ReplyDeleteExactly nothing is wrong with Nigeria but Nigerians are the problem of Nigeria. Let them run anywhere that behaviour still follows them. Nigeria will change for good when we as a people are willing to change. I mean we are so corrupt right from house servants to top executives. And we always lays the blame on the government. We are deceiving ourselves.
DeleteSometimes hard to believe things would change for the better in Nigeria. The whole system is compromised. Even if a president has good intentions, there are bad eggs everywhere to thwart the best efforts. I never imagined I would ever consider japaing but these days....it is a case of. Ever say never
