The Federal Government on Monday announced the renaming of the University of Abuja to Yakubu Gowon University. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris announced the name change shortly after the last Federal Executive Council meeting for the year 2024, chaired by President Bola Tinubu.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, at Sa’adu Zungur University, SAZU, has suspended the indefinite strike it began two weeks ago. The union initiated the strike on November 29, demanding the implementation of pension and death benefit schemes for staff, as well as the payment of earned academic and excess workload allowances.

The Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Christopher Musa, has ordered a thorough investigation into the deaths of two Okuama community leaders, Pa James Oghoroko and Denis Okugbaye, while in Army custody. The Director, Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, disclosed this at the End-of-Year Briefing by the Strategic Communications Interagency Committee, SCIPC, Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, on Monday in Abuja.

Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, SPDC, on Monday said the reported oil leak from the Bonny Oil Export Terminal will not affect oil export. SPDC noted that the incident affected only a section at one out of the three loading buoys which had been isolated.

At least one person has been confirmed dead following a tragic collision involving a J5 Ford bus and a Mercedes truck on the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge. It was gathered that the accident which occurred at Ilubirin, inward Sura on Monday morning, also left about four persons injured.

The Supreme Court on Monday in Abuja imposed a N5m fine on a former presidential candidate, Chief Ambrose Albert Owuru for harassing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with frivolous and vexatious suit. Justice Uwani Musa Aba-Aji issued the order against the Owuru, who contested the 2019 presidential election under the platform of Hope Democratic Party HDP while dismissing his fresh suit that prayed for removal of Tinubu.

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, says its operatives have confiscated nine trucks loaded with bags of smuggled rice in Ogun State.
The Comptroller of the Federal Operations Unit, FOU, zone A, Kola Oladeji, revealed this on Monday at a press briefing in Lagos.
Oladeji said the feat was achieved by customs officers under the FOU zone A, who prevented the smugglers from bringing the products into the country from the Republic of Benin.
