Hmmmm.....

STAND ALONE NARRATIVE
PROBLEMATIC SALES GIRL

I was introduced to this girl by an agent, hiring her as a sales assistant. Over the past four years, she has brought me nothing but joy, and in that time, I’ve increased her salary four times. I trusted her so much that I would leave the shop in her hands and travel for days. Many people even thought we were related because of how close we were.

But everything changed when a customer told me something shocking. She had come in to buy perfume, and my employee gave her her personal bank account number to make the payment, claiming our POS system was down. I confronted her, and she admitted to it. I was devastated because I trusted and loved her like family. After counseling her, I decided to let her stay on, hoping she had learned her lesson.
But things only got worse. She started bringing her own perfumes to sell in the store. When customers paid for perfumes in cash, she would replace the purchased items with her own stock, essentially running her own business under my roof. I had been wondering why sales were low, but I never realized what she was doing until I reviewed the CCTV footage.

In a fit of anger and betrayal, I fired her and had her arrested. However, nothing came of the arrest, and instead, the case was turned against me.
Please how can I make her pay for what she did to me.

Why was the case reverted against you`Didnt u show them the CCTV evidence you have?

  1. This is the sad tale of getting sales girl/house girl. It’s like presently in naija the sales girl and househelps we have around wey get sense no pass 2. Untill u start looking for them, especially hose girls that is when you will know it is easier to find a needle in a hay stack.

Poster, please count it as ur loss, one of those bad debts in business. Let her go and move on, get somebody else. But let me be honest with you, the next person u get might do worse after sometime, the only time u would ever have 100% assurance that ur business is being handled the way u want it to be, is if u r the sales girl urself.
    Good luck.

  2. You could have discharge her peacefully pretend that nothing happen and allow karma to take it's charge, after all you praised her up there ☝🏾, or you even advice her to start her own too

  6. Poster so sorry about your loss...This is what bedevils a lot of Nigerian business but you were too trusting and gave her a lot of leeway and freedom....As an entrepreneur, you need to be shrewd and tough....

What affects the majority of small and medium businesses is that they are built around people instead of systems and processes.....How regularly did you watch the CCTV installed in your store? Do you have a lawyer and have you informed the agent about her conduct?

Your lawyer might want to petition the agent and mediate on how you will be compensated but know that you might not get all your money back...Sadly, this is where you have to count your losses....Mediation is the only tool you can use here because, with police and court, you will spend more than was stolen and you will end up more frustrated....

Here is my advice going forward for you

    1. Invest in software or a system to help with inventory and order fulfillment management. If possible, let the salesboy or girl be in charge of inventory while you do the order fulfillment. You will be the admin in both softwares; here you can approve, flag and decline suspicious orders e.g small orders, using a particular delivery address for order except if this is a return customer e.t.c....Then someone who checks the orders packed before onward dispatching...

    2. Hire someone that ensures staff on no account bring in their personal effects into the shopfloor and they should be checked at the close of business by the security guard on duty with necessary sign off....

    3. Get a barcode scanner to catalogue your wares into the system mentioned and have an insurance that covers theft, fires and losses...Insurance will always come in handy for you...

    4. Have someone stationed on the CCTV to spot check any irregularities daily while you watch the footage weekly or daily whichever works for you...

    5. Any proven case of theft or fraud should be automatic dismissal or sack; you are in a business not a charity or NGO.....If you keep forgiving them, your business will suffer for it and you are sending a message that it is okay to steal from you.....You need to be firm and assertive while treating them with empathy....

All the best and I pray your business gets back on its feet.....

  7. That's the reason why as a business owner, you don't leave you business totally in hand of outsiders, even if you have other business always go around to take daily stock and see how things are go going .......... Just let her go since you don't have actual amount she embezzled, and it was her business she was doing codedly, in some organisation certain amount is being deducted from the salary every month upon when the employee is leaving you pay back completely but if there's any defunt the money will be shared or may not be paid..... Let her go

He has two shops so she was the One running one of them.
Another sales girl in Benin bought a land and built house l. She's the one in charge of going to the market for her madam her parents never asked her how it was possible for her to build a house from her salary

  11. I think every business person has been down this road. Finding trustworthy ppl is the very hardest thing as a business owner. If I should tell the story of what happened to my hairdresser in hiring one person and the wickedness that was done to her by that one person. All I will say is that she lost her business and found herself working in someone else’s shop after owning her own business for more than a decade and owning the building it was in. Ppl will waltz in to destroy what someone else has taken years to build then convince themselves and others that it is because the customers like them better or the owner doesn’t know how to run their business right. You want to see gaslighting find someone who is underhandedly trying to steal clients from a business.

My dear, you do not know if she used juju why you liked her so much and did all that you did. God and His angels have to fight this battle for you. So gird your loins and go in prayer warrior mode with vigils and fasting if medically possible. She is a termite that came to destroy what she did not build. If there is no law on earth to help you then let universal law help you. Also thank God for clearing your eyes and showing you the truth. Those seasoned in deception can go undetected for years.

  12. Money has a spirit that can as well influence one negatively. Greed is one of them. It takes self control for one to conquer. It can change a good person in just a minute, the more you get ,the more you want.
Meanwhile don't you take stocks and check records of goods sold ? If you had done that regularly you would have found out on time before it got to that extent.
Good that she has been fired. If you have your evidence take it from there and ask her to pay you.
Just take that as a lesson not to trust much when it comes to money.

  15. Aunty Stella, the Nigerian police system is so crazy. My mother's gateman stole her generator about 6 months ago. The evidence was very glaring. My mum had them lock him up. The police assured her that he would go to court. We saw him at home 2 days later begging for forgiveness. It really scares us, cos he could have harmed her and we wouldn't even know he was out. So annoying

  19. Unfortunately this is why Nigerians are suffering
There are enough rich Nigerians to employ people in several roles but the fear of this is too much
Even I said I want to set up supermarket and employ relatives but I’ve been told don’t even think about it
