  29. We were Muslims but will visit my dad's friend in a neigbohouring town and be well feasted even as a large polygamous family. We would essentially be treated to oyinbo and local cuisine. Buffet style. We would have fun eating loads of food, watching movies (I recall I first ever watching and loving Sound of Music here), getting piano and drum lessons from their much older but cool kids.

We would get a return visit at Eid (ileya) too. Those were wonderful memories and May Allah be pleased with all of these wonderful departed souls who made childhood so much fun.

As a grown up in Gidi prior to relocating, I enjoyed the decor that nicely beautifies VI and the Island as a whole. The eko hotel roundabout was always a delight and I like that they kept making it bigger and better each year. There was even a nativity scene and mini amusement park for kids at some point. VI is beautiful at this time of the year. I also tend to work in December, whilst half the staff and half of VI is empty. I loved the reduced traffic to and from work when our ibo brethren have gone to the village for Christmas. Even in a core back office department, work was noticeably reduced and there was so much pop-up fun activities and free/gifted catering to merry with.

I am Muslim, and it's amazing that I have so many fond memories of Christmas even as I don't celebrate it.
