Dr. Segun Adeoye, a Houston doctor, saw his life turn upside down in 2021 when he was arrested on his first day at a Texas hospital where he had volunteered to help during the COVID-19 crisis. Federal agents charged him with conspiracy to commit money laundering and wire fraud, alleging involvement in a romance scam that defrauded hundreds.
Adeoye was one of 23 individuals arrested, but remarkably, he was the only one acquitted – after spending 30 months in jail without bail, and deemed a flight risk, a jury cleared him of all charges in March 2024.
He described his experience as a "horror film" and a "terrible state" where he lost his father while incarcerated and couldn't attend the funeral. Knowing his father died thinking the son he raised right was behind bars. Investigations revealed a childhood friend was among the co-defendants, suggesting officials assumed guilt by association.
Now free, Adeoye struggles to rebuild his life. Friends shun him, his medical career is in shambles, and he's forced to work at a freestanding ER. He lost his two homes and is pursuing a $400 million lawsuit against the US government.

I deliberately did not use his photo ...
I hope those friends who are shunning him will read this and go and apologise to him, this is a horrible thing to be going through alone...Ah, I hope and pray that he wins this case cos he just might never be able to properly use his license again....
He should sue them heavily and use the payout to kickstart his life. Haba that's too much ooh. May God replenish all what he has lost while incarcerated.
ReplyDeleteHonestly.. They should pay heavily..
DeleteBe very very very careful of your friends.
DeleteThe people you call friends
The people you publicly endorse.
Hmmm.
My life is about quality not quantity.
I like the fact he is suing them heavily, they must not go scot-free, you can't ruin people's lives like that and expect them to chop ordinary sorry, no oh, they will payyyy.
DeleteCompensation
DeleteWetin false Accusations they cause
ReplyDeleteAahhhh Na waooo.
Lord Jesus Please fight Doctor Segun battle for him ..
Restore everything he has lost..π
Hello iya Boys
So sad. Thank God he has been acquitted.
ReplyDeleteThe good thing is that he’s in an environment where he can get justice. The justice system may not be perfect but they strive to make it work. They correct their mistakes.
ReplyDeleteMay God fix it for you sir, it's well with your soul
ReplyDeleteMay we not have worthless friends? Imprisonment by association? GOD forbid o
ReplyDeleteGod who started this good work, will perfect it.ππΏ
ReplyDeletePeople that are quick to discard their friends shame on y'all.. I pray he wins the case
ReplyDeleteFind a lawyer, sue them for millions so you never need to work again for life. Cos even though you were acquitted, some big hospitals or corporations may still not hire you. The friends shunning him are very silly, unless they are acquitances.
ReplyDeleteI personally can be friends with anyone except a thief, cos the day they come for the thief they might come for you too. Seems that's why he was arrested. Lessons learned. If you are not with them, stay far away from them.
You can be 'friends' with a rapist?
DeleteAnyways birds of a feather...
17.49, don't be daft now.
DeleteHe already sued them for $400M, read it to the end.
DeleteThis is so sad
ReplyDeleteNobody should ever have to face something like this. So many innocent people have died behind bars. They just destroyed someone’s life like that and expect to get away with it.
ReplyDeleteThis ππΎ is why some seem to avoid their former Naija friends who have “unaccounted” “seemingly unearned” money, not linked to a source of legitimate work. Houston is in Texas, a red state where a black man who is a physician was wrongly convicted. A red state is a Republican state where you are more likely to get biased treatment as a minority than in a blue state.
ReplyDeleteI’m not saying it cannot happen in a blue state like Md, Illinois or New York but it’s more likely in the Southern Red states that Nigerians like to live. Atlanta is in Georgia, another popular red state with good weather. Just as there are many Nigerians doing great legitimately, there are those involved in all sorts of scams: drs and nursing home owners fraudulently billing taxpayer funded Medicare, ($200 for a $19 cane etc), living large with houses in the US & Nigeria, Pharmacists involved in billing fraud or selling their prescription opiates illegally, etc. Some were arrested in 2021 for a $3m π³prescription Oxycodone fraud. Many physicians & nursing home owners are sitting pretty on this table.
These are the folks that make some assume you are stingy since you are in the same profession but do not splurge or throw money around like them. Many African grocery stores literary sell expired or bad ogbono, Garri, Egusi or Crayfish mixed with sandy stuff! I digress, that relative or friend in the US will appreciate clean Garri or crayfish. It’s not supposed to be one-sided transactional $ giving like I have done for decades with none sending me any of those items which were inexpensive before BAT. They could have sent me $10 Garri, I would appreciate it but it was always billings for decades. For the first time we have no Garri at home not because of money but they all stankπ· The Ghanaian brands that used to be clean though tasteless is mouldy because it wasn’t allowed to dry like Garri should. The packaged ijebu Garri is mostly dirty. I am going to import foodstuff from π³π¬ by DHL. We threw all the African grocery food store things into the garbage. If they arrest them wholesale for non compliance with FDA & local food regulations among other felonies, it may affect others linked to them. Some are so bold to sell prescription corticosteroids for bleaching whitening creams?) in an ethnic grocery store! In the US! I cooked with their blended crayfish, we could taste sand in the sauce. Why do π³π¬ seem prone to low level crime against their own folks? Caucasians, Asians etc too have criminals like hush puppy etc but I wonder if you can became a millionaire by adulterating crayfish!
I feel sorry for this man but run from old friends who are up to no good. Let them say you are arrogant or stuck up. Better that, than to be associated with them because your number is often on their call log. He will get some compensation but will have to be explaining on the board renewal form whenever his license is due for renewal.
I pray he wins this case π
ReplyDeleteHis friends will surely come begging him chai
Kaiππ
ReplyDeleteFalse accusations hurt so bad. I pray he regain all he has lost.
ReplyDeleteThis is really sad, I pity this man o. I pray God vindicate him.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad.
ReplyDeleteThank God he is free....
ReplyDeleteI pray that he will recover everything he has lost.
Sometimes, I wonder how the law operates, knowing the kind of loss he had suffered in 30 months of his incarceration, the court should have awarded him damages. I pray he wins the case.
ReplyDeleteThank God for him
ReplyDeleteHis friends did not try all
May we not be burdened by so called friends. Fortune will smile on you doctor for all your pains
ReplyDeleteGod will help him .
ReplyDeleteGood he is suing!
ReplyDeleteI pray he wins!
