Senator Ali Ndume has appealed to the Nigerian Senate to allow Uchenna Ubah, the widow of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, to replace her husband as the representative of Anambra South Senatorial District. Ndume made this request during a valedictory session held in honor of the late senator, who passed away in June 2024 after a brief illness.
Ndume argued that permitting Uchenna Ubah to succeed her husband would honor his legacy and ensure continuity in serving the constituents. He cited historical precedents where family members, particularly spouses, succeeded deceased senators to carry on their legacies, referencing examples like Margery Okadigbo and others. The appeal comes ahead of a planned by-election to fill the vacant seat, which is being organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

What does the constitution says on such issue? They know better and should know how best to go about it.
ReplyDelete© TEEJAY
One thing, is it in the constitution of Nigeria, another is can she do the work well ,can she cope or fit in, although Una know better, hopefully they will not left her behind Sha
ReplyDeleteWelcome to 9ja, where politics is family business.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, family business o, can't they honour him another way?
DeleteVery senseless suggestion 🙄😠
DeleteReally senseless! Mtchewwwww
DeleteLet her join other candidates to contest for the position, it's not hereditary. The chamber house is not a sole proprietary business.
ReplyDeleteNigerians and sentiment everywhere.
Or inheritance
DeleteThe position is an elective one and should not be treated as a family affair.
ReplyDeleteThere are many other meaningful ways to honor his legacy without undermining the democratic process.
The party he belonged to should decide the next steps.
Alternatively, the position could rightfully go to the candidate who came second in his constituency, respecting the will of the electorate.
Exactly 👍👍
DeleteNa family title?
ReplyDeleteI tire, dem no go leave her to mourn her husband everything in Nigeria is business as usual.
DeleteIt's an elective position, not family business
ReplyDeleteMadness!
ReplyDeleteSee the type of people that occupy the senate and how low Nigeria has sunk.
He intends to pass the baton of his elected position to his own children as their birthright❗
What bills has he passed to make sure Nigerians have constant power supply and an enabling environment for SMEs to thrive and drive economic growth?❓
Was the widow's name on the election ballot paper?❓
Did anyone vote for the widow❓
Let them apply what constitution says and if she is interested, let her contest. No be family post
ReplyDeleteDem dey ment ni ?
ReplyDeleteFor what reason biko ?
Did she beg them ??? These so called 'rables' better respect themselves o
Its wrong. Nigeria and sentiment na 5&6
ReplyDeleteThis is not right at all,it's not a family business
ReplyDeleteHahan, is it family business? She can contest like others & voted for.
ReplyDeleteNot a family business 🥹
ReplyDeleteNigerian political offices is for family and friends.
ReplyDeleteOnly in Nigeria.😲
ReplyDeleteSupported ✌️ so far her name is on the campaign poster and ballot paper as the candidate's spouse, if she's not interested, they can give it to any of his children that's above 18.
ReplyDeleteDid she tell Senator Ndume she wanna join.. Let her speak for herself.

ReplyDeleteWhat a suggestion? 🙄🙄🙄
ReplyDeleteOh yeah...if bianca can be allowed, Uchenna should be allowed
ReplyDeleteSo this is some kind of family business now??
ReplyDeleteIs the post a family inheritance?
ReplyDeleteThis is a senseless suggestion in a democratic settings.
Hmmmm
ReplyDeleteNot good because it is not a family sonet6
**something.
ReplyDeleteNa wah ooo
This people don turn politics to family inheritance
ReplyDeleteIf God really gives people their leaders then Nigerians have a lot of repenting to do.
ReplyDeleteA most ridiculous request. All she needs is to receive her husband’s pension, why does she need to be a representative.
I totally disagree with you on this Mr Ndume.
ReplyDeleteBianca, Margery Okadigbo etc are all beneficiaries of a situation like Ubah’s wife. Ndume’s suggestion is inline with precedence. There’s nothing wrong with his suggestion.
ReplyDeleteAnd ppl wonder why the illiteracy rate is still so high in this time of history. Pulling leaders right out of their azzes.
DeleteMumu talk. Go and tell his constituency to give her ticket(her late husband party), then mobilize people to vote for her.
ReplyDeleteChai, this must be the joke of the year. Dey don turn am to tamily business.
