The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) Abike Dabiri-Erewa, says Nigeria will not force the newly elected leader of UK’s Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, to identify with her Nigerian roots.
Dabiri-Erewa, whose office oversees activities of Nigerians in diaspora, disclosed that her office has reached out to Badenoch a few times and got no response.

“It depends on if she identifies the Nigerianess in her. We have reached out to her once or twice without any response, so we don’t force people to accept to be Nigerian,” Dabiri-Erewa said on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief programme on Wednesday when asked if the government has identified with Badenoch.
“If you appreciate the Nigerianess in you and you want to work with us, we are open to everybody, but we cannot force you to appreciate the Nigerianess in you. You remember the Miss Universe Nigeria in South Africa.
“Until she got into a little problem with South Africa she identified with Nigeria, and she identified with Nigeria, came to Nigeria and we hosted her. As long as that blood is in you, you are a Nigerian.
“So, it depends on Kemi to decide whether appreciates the Nigerianess in her, whether she wants to work with Nigeria, but we cannot force anybody.”
The Conservatives on Saturday elected Badenoch as its new leader, replacing Rishi Sunak, who quit after the party’s disastrous showing in the July general election.

Dabiri- Erewa,
ReplyDeleteSo you're praying for Kemi to get into trouble so she will identify with you and Nigerians? Madam why not concentrate on your job descriptions. Why are you contacting her? If she was on the news for the wrong reason, would you have asked her to identify her Nigerianess.
You guys only want to associate with successful people but don't wanna follow their process when they're yet to make it.
Pls leave that woman alone. Currently, no one should be proud of the Nigeria you're calling someone to identify her heritage with. If Nigeria was a working country, people will gladly do so without being told. If she hadn't won that seat, would you have reached out to her? Pls don't infect her with the Nigerian mentality and corruption system.

DeleteVery well said, the way Dabiri- Erewa spoke can be triggering.
DeleteEveryone wants to associate with success but do not want to take the process of getting there.
Please do not stain Kemi's white, YES she has Nigerian blood and because she snobs this association, does not mean she snobs Nigerians.
Okay so you want a British born Nigerian to join an association of Nigerians who moved to the UK - isnt this the wrong association for her?
Is she not supposed to be approached by the UK black British association?
Please Karen and Co need your help, focus on the right people and not just successful people..
No of my business but this Kemi too do. Make she nur Kast cos I my know Naija people dey go troll her dye. Good luck to whatever she represent na she sabi.
ReplyDeleteIf your prayer is for her to Kast may God never allow that day to come.

She haven't done any wrong by achieving good things for herself all of a sudden you want her to fall so you and your family will gloat over her. GOD FORBID

DeleteWords on Diamond....Very apt
DeleteThis woman self ....
ReplyDeleteHello iya Boys
Abike want to claim relationship with success. Where were you before now. Yeye dey smell
ReplyDeleteShe no want. Haba mana.
ReplyDeleteThe job of the Diaspora commission is not only to release people from detention in other countries. They also celebrate successful Nigerians in diaspora so that the other countries can see that we are not just a nation of drug carriers or criminals.
ReplyDeleteKemi Badenoch has been elected the leader of opposition so it's obvious there is nothing she can offer Nigeria or the commission, at least right now. She has snubbed them and its okay, it's within her right to do that.
Is it not curious that our default position on any issue is to condemn our country and take sides against it, yet we claim we want the country to progress.
What yeye celebration of successful Nigerians abroad? Have they finished celebrating the ones within Nigeria? Abike has no business with Kemi. She should do her job.
DeleteIt is called Diaspora commission for a reason; Diaspora are Nigerians living outside the country. One agency certainly does not represent the entirety of government
DeleteMake una leave Kemi oooo...she is a politician and must have given up her Nigerian passport to get to where she is...for certain UK govt jobs you must give up your citizen of origin, I am there so I know ..una face una country!!!
