The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has declared nine persons wanted over terrorism and violent extremism in the North East. They are: Abu Khadijah, Abur Rahman, Dadi Gumba, Abu Yusuf, Musa Wa’a, Usman Kanin Shehu, Ibrahim Suyeka, Ba Sulhu, and Idris Taklakse.


The Presidency has allayed fears over the safety of Compressed Natural Gas-powered vehicles recently introduced in Nigeria as an alternative to petrol-powered cars. The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed the fears in a post on X on Thursday, saying that Malaysia’s policy was focused on the safety of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) not CNG.

The National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), has appointed Barr. Kamoru Ogunlana as Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA). According to a letter dated November 6, 2024 by the Executive Chairman of NASC, Engr. Ahmed Kadi Amshi, the appointment of Ogunlana would take effect from February 2, 2025.

Residents and officials of government in Sokoto State have cried out over the presence of members of the Lakurawa sect in the state, saying they are making life unbearable for them. This is just as the military yesterday confirmed the presence of members of the group in communities in Sokoto and Kebbi states.

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has publicly refuted claims of a rift with his political mentor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Speaking with journalists, Yusuf addressed speculations and rumours of discord, insisting that his relationship with Kwankwaso remains strong and respectful, as it has been for the past 40 years.

Ahead of the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has vowed to sanction any official who attempts to compromise the electoral process. Professor Yakubu Mahmood, INEC Chairman, gave the warning during a stakeholders’ forum on the forthcoming election held in Akure, the state capital, on Thursday.

Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has stated that Nigeria is undergoing a fundamental and disruptive reset, following the removal of subsidies by President Bola Tinubu. He noted the need to transition from subsidies, which largely benefitted the urban elite, to a productive social contract that creates opportunities for all.

Gunmen suspected to be cultists have shot and killed a member of a vigilante group in the Obele community in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State. The victim was a member of a local security outfit called the ONELGA Security Peace and Advisory Committee codenamed OSPAC.

A newborn baby was dumped in the gutter in Umuahia by an unknown person.
The baby was discovered inside the deep gutter at Umuwaya Road, opposite Abam Street,in the Abia State capital on Thursday.
As at Thursday evening, it was not certain if the child is still alive or not

An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of a housewife, Olajumoke Olalere, 33, at Agodi Correctional facility, Ibadan, for allegedly stabbing her husband to death.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, who did not take the defendant’s plea for lack of jurisdiction, ordered her remand pending the legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
She, thereafter, adjourned the case until March 5, 2025 for mention.
