Man Escapes Being Lynched After Fatally Shooting Man For Playing Football Near His House

A 70-year-old man, Mr Stephen Irobunda has escaped being lynched in Ohokobe Ndume, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State for allegedly killing a young man, Mr Bright Odizuru.
The victim, Odizuru, was shot dead on Saturday by the suspect during an altercation between the aged man and some youths in the community.

Community sources told Dailypost that the victim, together with other youths, were playing football near Irobunda’s house during local government election, which infuriated the suspect and he fired in the air to scare away the youths.
The youths in response went back to Irobunda house to know why he was trying to intimidate them with gunshots and that point, the man drew his gun again and shot one of the youths, Bright Odizuru in his abdomen, leading to his death in a hospital.
The death of the young man infuriated the Ohokobe Mbaocha youths who pounced on the suspect and attempted to lynch him before he was rescued by security agents.
Not done, the youths also tried to set his house ablaze, but were calmed down by the security agents.
The spokesperson of Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka confirmed the killing and said that “Police have such reports, crime scene has been visited and investigation is ongoing at SCID”.

  1. There's no gain in being trigger happy. What did he gain killing the young man? They should have allowed the youths.

    1. There is no gain in wasting your life in the name of youthful exuberance. The man who shot this man is already 70 and on his way out. By law, he had every right to protect himself against a raging mob especially after he had fired a warning shot that they wanted to retaliate for. You don't have a right to infringe on people's property or peace.

People should learn to respect boundaries and other people's property please. Even if the young people burn down the man's house, they will spend the best years of their life in jail while the old man will live in another town or die having made more of his life than these young men burdened with a sense of entitlement to his property.

  14. The painful truth is this man's lawyer will not stress to set him free. Classical case of self defence. At best, they will get him on a technicality of not registering his gun.

Was the gangster move of charging at a 70 year old man because he didn't want you on his property enough to throw away your life and dreams? Will the foolish friends who scampered away like cowards because they miscalculated his readiness to shoot at them going to take care of the deceased's mother?

Wisdom is profitable. May God help us all.

He should spend his remaining years in jail.

  18. It's such a sad story. Many older folks cannot handle noise and being around young ppl for too long. It is important that we all consider how we want to age and the environment we want to age in when we are building our homes or purchasing them. It is never too soon to start thinking about your aging and what you want it to look like.

So much could have been done differently in this situation. No matter how you feel about someone, whether you think they are low-class or beneath you, someone loves them and someone wants them alive. I bet he never anticipated the response he received. You cannot kill someone because you think they are a nuisance.
