 A United States-based Nigerian, Ifeanyi Ozoh, has been sentenced to 72 months in prison for his role in a $6m bribery scheme aimed at defrauding a US insurance company, Medicaid, through kickbacks. Ozoh was also ordered to pay a sum of $4.9m as restitution to the insurance company with a three-year post-release supervision.



The Senate on Wednesday urged the Defence Headquarters, DHQ, to immediately halt the activities of the incursion of ISIS-backed terrorist group, Lukarawa in the Northern part of Kebbi and Sokoto states. The Red Chamber, after a debate on the activities of the terrorists, charged troops to not only curb their further incursion into the country but to eliminate them.

. Gunmen on Wednesday attacked policemen in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State. While an account has it that two policemen were killed in the attack, another account has it that the gunmen succeeded in killing one, leaving the other with several bullet wounds.

 The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has maintained that the victory recorded by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in Ondo State governorship election was not influenced by the presidency or any other external influence. He made the declaration while receiving Aiyedatiwa and his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has recommenced the purchase of crude oil from the United States in its ongoing efforts to ramp up oil production and enhance its refining capacity. A report by Bloomberg on Wednesday said the cargo conveying two million barrels of WTI Midland crude from Chevron Corp is due to be delivered to the refinery next month.

 President Bola Tinubu has dissolved the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, and removed its newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bernard Odoh, and Registrar, Mrs. Rosemary Nwokike. He also approved the removal of Ohieku Salami as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.

. Death toll has risen to 209 in the Majia town tanker explosion that happened in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State. Chairman of the investigative committee, DIG Hafiz M. Inuwa (retd), disclosed these findings during the formal presentation of the committee’s report to Governor Umar Namadi.

 The House of Representatives has mandated electricity distribution companies, DisCos, to undertake a N500 billion recapitalisation to enhance their financial stability and ensure they can efficiently meet their obligations to the public. The House said recent actions by DisCos have posed a significant threat to the nation’s economic stability and the welfare of Nigerians.

The Rivers State Police Command said its men rescued a businessman identified as Julius Madabuchi, who was kidnapped by a four-man gang at a filling station in the Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state. The police said the man was abducted when the miscreants who were driving in a Black Toyota car stormed the area and started shooting discriminately before executing their plan.

The National Counter Terrorism Centre, NCTC, has said that terrorist groups are using young girls as s#x slaves and suicide missions wreaking havoc in various parts of the country.
The centre’s national coordinator, Major-General Adamu Laka, made this known on Wednesday in Abuja at the launch of a Technical Assistance Project on promotion and support for the rights and needs of victims of terrorism through the implementation of the model legislative provisions.
According to him, women, children, and youth have been disproportionately affected over the years.

Am here for the tanker explosion story in the Majia town of Jigawa State, with death toll of 209 people 😰 If the government doesn't do something drastic, these fuel tanker operators will not change. Safely measures should be a must ✅🚒 RIP to the dead victims, may God grant their loved ones fortitude.
