CHRONICLE OF A MARRIED MAN

If I'm sleeping and a noise wakes me up, I don't go back to sleep, the sleep vanishes from my eyes and headache takes over.

As a result of this, I check well before renting an apartment. I make sure there is no church, mosque, beeer parlour, barbing salon close to it. I also make sure there is no woman that owns a commercial grinding machine close to it.

Last Sunday morning while I was still sleeping ( I don't go to church on Sundays nowadays, I rest ), I started hearing noises. Upon enquiry, I found out that a church just rented a flat two buildings to my house.
They now mounted this two gigantic loud speakers in the balcony and blasted activities from inside the church.
I'm waiting for Saturday to come, that community meeting that I hardly attend, I will attend it and table their matter.
It's high time all states in Nigeria make a law to clamp down on noise pollution. They should punish offenders, not like their usual law that is only written on paper.
Nigeria is bigger than some African countries that I have been to, where you don't hear noise on the streets of major cities.

  1. It's commendable that the Lagos State Government is taking proactive steps to address noise pollution, it shows a commitment to improving the quality of life for residents. Noise pollution disrupts not only sanity but also health, causing stress, sleep disturbances, and other adverse effects.

If you're dealing with persistent noise pollution, reporting it to the appropriate authorities is the right move. Lagos has specific agencies, like LASEPA (Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency), that handle such cases. Ensuring compliance with these regulations fosters a more serene and livable environment for everyone. Your sanity and peace should indeed be non-negotiable!

  2. We are I the same shoes. If I'm sleeping and a pin drops, I will open my eyes except if I take cough syrup or cattarh medication.
I don't know why they must mount speakers outside to disturb the neighborhood.
This reminds me of Bv Marigold that got giveaway to buy a new loudspeaker or so for her church. It's been months she commented, I hope she is fine.

  4. Honestly sometime I wonder as Christians if we truly read our bibles to understand the word or just to use when praying or for argument purposes....We behave like the Pharisees which Jesus vehemently criticized....

We fail to forget that some people might be battling illness, some people need time to rest and also our senior citizens that we fail to consider....You don't need to be loud before God hears us - we are not worshipping a man made God....

Thank God for LASEPA that take complaints of noise pollution very seriously...This is because the neighbourhood where my church is sited has reported us to them and they gave us a very STRONG WARNING...Our vicar had to warn all church groups to stop the loud music & programmes....

Let your community officials do something about this...It's unfair.....

    1. If this poster does not live in Lagos, he may not be successful with the report. I think it's only Lagos government that is taking steps to curtail it

  9. Noise of any kind disturbs my brain. This my shop neighbor is guilty of noise pollution. Her two toddlers will be crying, she won't even try to make them keep quiet. The children will be crying for hours and she will ignore them.
