I was on phone with my dad last night and he hinted me that one of my cousins has just finished his second house in our town, despite the current economy. He urged me to relocate to our native town if the city where I currently reside in does not favour me. I would not pay house rent (if I want) as there are free rooms in the family house.
This particular cousin of mine did not attend higher institution, he did not learn any skill either. While we all lived in other bigger towns and cities and struggle with our lives, my guy stayed back in our town to hustle. He lived in the family house initially and started with okada riding, then graduated to bus driving, now he has more than two buses that bring in money.
Asides from the buses, he is the one that represents our family in the king's palace , they later gave him a small title which earns him allocation from the palace. I even learnt he has delved into politics and will soon contest for one small post.
He is a farmer too has varieties of cash crops like kolanut, cocoa, cassava, etc apart from the normal food crops that he plants for family consumption. He is also a hunter and fisherman.
I'm in this city working my butts out with little returns while my dear cousin is growing bigger in my town.

The only difference is that he looks well older than me physically while I'm older in age... but, na young looks I wan chop? I will restrategise and give myself one year, if I don't improve financially, I will relocate to my town.
Simple!

Is your town somewhere you can easily relocate to?
Oh well! Live in the village is good if you stayed there like he did. But having had the city life taste and want tro go start over there, hmmm.
ReplyDeleteThis xmas some people might be relocating to the village for good because cost of house rent is choking
DeleteYou said he didn't learn any trade or have any skills but your cousin was riding okada, later changed to a bus driver, that's a skill
ReplyDeleteYou also said he is into farming, that's another skill.
He is the Representative of the family, social skill, at work
Your cousin is a focused guy that is not afraid to start small or do any job for survival, he knows what he wants and I wish him all the best in his political journey.
Some people haven't made it because they are shy of what people will say concerning some certain kinds of jobs.
You too get sense 🌹
DeleteWell Said @Mariam

DeleteWe sometimes limit ourselves when we use others standards to rate our abilities.
Your cousin is someone who is bold, happy and comfortable in his own skin, self and abilities.
Tempting as it seems, but to everyone his own. Our Destiny differ. Find what works for you.

DeleteAs the saying goes, "there is a time for every season and person." Before making any decisions, I encourage you to carefully consider the challenges that come with village life, especially the physical and emotional strain. The demands can be quite tough, and it’s important to think about whether you can truly handle the stress and the lifestyle that comes with it.
ReplyDeleteDon’t let the pressures of the village environment take a toll on you to the point where you end up looking older or more fatigued than the person you’re concerned about. It's crucial to be mindful of your well-being, especially if the conditions are harsh.
Please take care of yourself and weigh the decision carefully.
Yes!!! Okene is the best.
ReplyDeleteJust check yourself dear you know better,if possible pray over it seriously God will reveal to you the exact steps to follow, good luck 🤗
ReplyDeleteMy cousins abroad for over 8years don't have any investment yet, the ones home all married and own their own homes..

DeleteThis life no balance
what an interesting read. But note that the fact that your cousin made it in the village does not mean you will make it there too. ori yato si ori
ReplyDeleteI stay in my village, wrote JAMB and got admission from my village, got married from my village, gave birth to all my children at the general hospital in my village, built two houses in town for tenants, but na village I dey go every Wednesday for business.
ReplyDeleteOga poster, restrategise and see how it goes. If you relocate, hope your wife and kids will cope fine too?
ReplyDeleteIf you relocate, hope you wife and kids will cope fine too? I have seen where a marriage scattered because he relocated to his village and wife could not live there with him. Husband got himself another woman in the village and wife too moved on.
ReplyDeleteSometimes their lives maybe very tempting and you may be forced to doubt your glory but don't worry, your turn to shine will arrive.
ReplyDeleteStay where you are, "the earth is the Lord's and his fullness (goodness) thereof, "Psalm 24:1."
.
Where you are is a fertile land, keep sowing for in due season, you shall reap the goodness thereof.
My 2 friends left Kano to Edo when bank retrenched them, they are doing well now. Farming and other hustling.
ReplyDeleteVillage guys are actually making it through those businesses that many of these city people neglect. Many of them are building houses and buying lands within a short space of time with money made from the businesses you described up there.
ReplyDeleteOne advice, if you must do transportation business, make sure you don't hire your bus to anybody. Drive it yourself because these drivers will do you shege. You shouldn't even give the car to a relative or a trusted friend , not even a trusted church member. They are all thesame, it's only by the grace of God that your car will yeild good income if you higher it out.
