They decide... it's their life...I just light the way up and provide guidance..

I will only guide. My son wanted to do Civil Engineering but when I looked at the prospects and the people around us who did the course, I advised for Mechanical.

Civil engineering has a great prospect.

ReplyDeleteI will guide them in choosing . I will look out for their passion, interest and what I have observed they are capable of doing..because some children will change their mind ten times before age 18 on their future career path.

ReplyDeleteIt is not wise to vehemently insist on a career path for your kid, it is better to guide them and at last let them decide what they want to do and you give them your full support.
ReplyDeleteThe fallout with my mum started after secondary school, when she wanted to impose a career path for me, I refused and did what I wanted (with the later support of my Dad) which today I rate myself very successful and fulfilled. However, she hated me for the guts, did all sorts to make sure I didn't succeed. I think so she would say I told you. My dad tried to settle us after many years, we settled but with comma, we were able to manage it. Then the full hatred came back at the demise of my Dad (late last year) and I cut her off temporarily, till I figure out how to resolve this, wish things were different with her but then I have to survive at least for myself anyways.
Eeeeya, your mum didn't do well in that aspect of training. Forgive & open your hurts to her, also try and visit her more. Am sure she regrets too...all the best dear.

ReplyDeleteBack in Secondary shool then, Baby geh was soo art inclined but cos of her brilliance and academic perfomances, the principal wanted and adviced she go the science line . I refused o. She has to follow her. Choice and passion and thank God she did and still execeling.
