Actor Ufuoma Mcdermott Talks About Having Stage 4 Kidney Disease

In this exclusive interview with Chude, actor and producer Ufuoma Mcdermott shared how she found her way back from Stage 4 kidney disease, how it changed how she lived her life, how she managed her public career while dealing with this in private, and why this life-changing experience has transformed the way she lives her life today.
Also for the first time, she confirms that over the past few years she has lived with her family abroad while acting and producing in Nigeria - and how a very private life has served her very well.

First, she lost her younger brother to chronic kidney disease.
Then last year, Ufuoma was also diagnosed of Stage 3 kidney disease - after battling with it for 12 years.
She was told to slow down at work and rest But she thought she had more time and negotiated with her doctors.
That delay turned out to be costly.
She was shortly diagnosed of Stage 4 kidney disease.....Stage 4, That’s the final stage.
And she says it was a result of drug abuse - ingesting too many painkillers.
Thus began a battle for her life, where there was zero room for error. For 6 months, she couldn’t move. She couldn’t work. She couldn’t add weight. She actually thought the end had come.

  3. This country has failed her citizens if not everyone is supposed to for medical check up at least once or twice in a year but the cost won't make people go for it. Alots of youth have been slumping and dying from kidney diseases and heart related illnesses .

    1. Medical care, the world over, is extremely expensive. In fact Nigeria has some of the cheapest health care systems. The good money they pay docs n nurses there, where do u think it is coming from? They generate it from the citizens. Secondly, the oyibo countries don’t joke with health insurance, here many people have either not heard about it or they would rather buy wigs than pay health insurance, there is insurance foe as little as 20k quarterly. Read up, so pls nigeria is jot totally bad, sometimes there is also ignorance on the part of us, the citizens.

    1. I don't take them, not even on days when I am having the worst menstrual cramps, I just tough it out. All of them, aspirin, acetaminophen and ibuprofen all have serious side effects with long-term use. They can cause liver damage, in her case kidney disease. Then the morphine, OxyContin and fentanyl are highly addictive. Big pharma are hustlers, when one of their drug cause serious side effects and damages they simply turn you to another drug for 'healing', they will make money any way you take it.
