  5. Stella it is not entirely the way you put it. Tithe is 10%, nobody deducts 10% from salaries for churches.

What happens is that, a fraction of the taxes deducted from you taxes is given to an organisation of your choice. i.e Say they deduct 35% taxes and then there is this 2% or 5% of this 35% you have to give to an organisation (acknowledged by the government) of your choice. It can be a publicly funded University or scientific research institution, it can be a charity home, it can be a church. In europe these days, most people choose to give to the Universities.

  7. I am a tither but i don't support this. Remember God loves a cheerful giver and even if people refuse to give to His house, He is God.

  8. Is not fair biko, Church is in the mind they say mostly and I think everyone do things according to how the spirit directs and believe too, you can't deduct tight from a staff that is not interested in it or is not willing to pay, after all it left for the person and her God Sha.

  11. Don’t worry, guys, he’s not a Nigerian Archbishop—he’s Ugandan.

I took the time to read the full story in Punch Newspaper, and here are some excerpts of what he said:

"Whenever we ask for tithe, everyone gives only what they have at that time. But the Bible says a tenth of whatever you earn belongs to the church,” Archbishop Lwanga stated. "Give me your support as I push for this proposal because it is good for us. Aren’t you tired of putting money in the baskets all the time?" He also added, "I was told that in Germany, people made agreements with their government to deduct monthly tithes from their salaries and forward it to the church. They use this money to build and renovate their churches.”

I’m sorry, but it still doesn’t make sense to me to mandate something that should be done out of free will.

  13. The question is.....is this the right time for this? This economy is suffocating lot of people. Abeg, people need to breathe & live first before talking about tithe. Humanity first.
