 Kaduna-based medical doctor, Dr Ganiyat Popoola, regained freedom from captivity 10 months after she was kidnapped. Popoola, a registrar in the Department of Ophthalmology at the National Eye Centre, Kaduna State, was abducted on December 27, 2023, along with her husband, Nurudeen Popoola.


Plans to create a constitutional role for traditional rulers got a boost in Abuja on Wednesday. This is as governors and key traditional rulers raised a committee to prepare a bill for constitutional amendment to accommodate traditional rulers in governance.

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday restrained the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant General of the Federation from further releasing funds to the Rivers State Government pending when a lawful appropriation act is passed by a validly constituted House of Assembly.

 President Bola Tinubu has named Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as acting Chief of Army Staff. The development comes amid the prolonged absence of General Tahoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, who has been away from the country for a while.

 Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), says current Nigerian workers are poorer than those who worked for the country in the past. Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State, also decried the present N70,000 minimum wage, arguing that the celebrated wage when converted to dollars, is equivalent to $42.

 The Rivers State Government on Wednesday appealed the Federal High Court, Abuja’s judgment which restrained the Central Bank of Nigeria from further releasing allocations from the federation account to the state. The state’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson confirmed the appeal.

 A Kuje Magistrate Court in the Federal Capital Territory has adjourned to Friday, November 8, to begin hearing on the charges brought against a member of the House of Representatives, representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency of Abia State, Alexander Ikwechegh, after granting him bail in the sum of N500,000.

 The Police Command in Lagos State says it has begun legal action against the organisers of a programme who used the name and picture of the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Olarenwaju Ishola, on its flyers as a guest without his consent. The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this known in a post he shared on his X handle on Wednesday.
