According to sources from People's Gazette, the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service Chairman, Emmanuel Nnamani revealed this on Saturday in response to a viral circular addressed to mortuary attendants in the State.
The circular instructed mortuary attendants to ensure that a fee of N40 per day is paid for corpses that are not buried within 24 hours.
The payments must be made before the collection of the Corpses for burial,with the funds remitted directly to the State Government as Mortuary tax.

So dead ppl need to be buried within hours of their death now🤣 Everything on Earth is pricey, birthing, living and dying all comes at a cost. Whew!

This isn't a good one. Another avenue the government wants to make money even from the dead. There are corpse that tradition deems they're kept and a befitting burial done.

DeleteThat traditionalist is up there saying some corpse should be kept and given a befitting burial. As in a dead person that doesn't know left from right again. That is why they go and rob or do drug trafficking to do burial.
Why keep a dead body for weeks or months?

N40 is highly ridiculous. It ought to be N10,000 per day starting after 10 days of keeping the corpse in the morgue, if the purpose of introducing the tax is to be achieved. The culture of keeping the dead for too long and spending outrageously on burial must be discouraged at all costs. It just doesn’t make sense.
