    1. You are never too old to go back to school. I’m learning software development and have no inkling of what I was getting into but I am determined to gain more knowledge and diversify then try to inculcate it into my career path. I’m older than you are and a mom of 1. Determination is my key. I see people way younger than I am doing it and more vast but it doesn’t bother me because I’m doing it for me and My vison. My pace, my time. I will get there in due time.

Girl, please do not listen to anyone. Take a step at a time and you will achieve it. Don’t let anyone rush you or deter you. At your pace and you will gain the required knowledge and even go further than you thought. #bedetermined πŸ˜‰

Your husband is either afraid that you will become something he is not or you will become financially stable. No body is too old to go to school. Not at any level.
A friend of mine graduated from a University here, she read Accountancy, had her 3 children, they went to the Uk, after which they moved to the US. She is now a certified Nurse with a Masters Degree. And she is not the only one i know who changed career. Never ever believe anyone who tells you, you are too old to school.
Its a desire and a passion that can be fulfilled at any time.
Your husband eh... He should tell you what he is afraid of.
Pst Funke Adejumo, is reading Law in her 60's.

Google women who go back to school after bearing children. My dear you are still young. What your mind can conceive you can achieve.

    Best wishes to you.

  4. Don't listen to your husband ooo. Nah enemy of progress. There's no age too old to go to school, learn a skill or trade etc. someone I know is about 50 years, one of her child already in the university and she's buying nursing form this year to go back to school. And yes, here in naija. You mustn't wait to get the resources to school abroad. Start where you are. And you mustn't have all the tuition fees for the program duration. One Day at a time, and you will get there.

There are so many people going back to school at 40, 50 etc.

D only person that can stop you from succeeding in life, is you.

  5. What of me 31 year old, planning to study law next year.
Am done with my first degree, in sociology. Not marry yet, no kid .
No job just want to do .
My dad is the only one supporting me . While others are saying I could focus on bussiness or learn skills.
    Am just confused for now.

    1. Just find something doing while going to school. So as not to leave the sole responsibility on your dad. Check d school environment and see what you can sell. You can be an online vendor. Or learn a skill to support yourself while at school too. E.g baking, tailoring, hair dressing or tech skills

Most importantly, have a direction. Know what you want in life and pursue that path. If you don't, you can ask God

  8. Poster first off get a job or start a business so you can start raising funds and have a source of income for your dream.....If you are in Lagos, I know in Yaba, there is a nursing school off Montgomery road, you can make some enquiries from there....

Look since this is your dream, pursue with it with all your heart...There will be distractions, discouragement from people you would never expect but keep your head up and know that these things are bound....I can imagine how you feel but know you won't get support from your husband.....You can achieve anything you set your mind to irrespective of your age....

    All the best

  9. 34 yrs old is very young to go back to school. My mother went to nursing school when she was 37 and had 3 children. It can be done but it is not easy, especially if you have young children. If you had yours young and they are teens now then it will be much easier.

I wish your husband was more supportive but do not let that stop you. If you feel the calling to broaden your coast and care for the sick then push on forth in determination and purpose. Once you complete your program the feeling of accomplishment will all make it worth it. And you will be able to work up to 20 years+ as a nurse. That makes it worth it to me.

A student of mine entered our program at 60 years old. She had a lot of financial problems, even faced eviction. She must have applied for over 100 jobs and she never gave up. A couple weeks ago she sent in an email that she had landed a six figure job in dollars. This was someone who couldn’t even get a minimum wage job a few months before. She is also training on the side so she can be a consultant and run her own business. She is determined never to be in financial straits ever again. I am so very proud of her. Her income is larger than even the manager of the program.

Trust God and never give up on yourself!

  10. You are not too old to go to school.

I think if you want to be a professional nurse, you must have a WAEC certificate with credit in maths, physics, chemistry and Biology. So, how do you intend to study Nursing if you are not a science student?

    1. Stop the discouragement and proffer solutions. She can get a tutor, write her Waec or Neco,

  11. It's never tool late to pursue your dreams. For nursing school, you need o level certificate in science subjects, including Maths and English as compulsory. Look for a federal approve nursing school around you and enrol.

  15. Hahaha this poster made me laugh so hard.
My friend get up and pursue your dreams. I'm 45 and I've gone back to school to study nursing. Ive a degree in business administration and studied arts in my sec sch.
I'm married with 4kids and my last in jss3. My two children are in the university. One is studying medicine.
What I did was, I wrote waec in science subjects and wrote jamb. Got admission to a nursing school. I'm in my second year now.
So if I can do it so can you.

  19. My cousin with no science background read nursing abroad at the age of 45.

It is all in the mind.

    You can do it!

  20. No you aren't old, let alone being too old to go back to school. But you also need to understand why your husband is objecting and try to allay his fears.
    Goodluck!

    ReplyDelete
  21. You're not old at all. But how do you plan to fund your nursing school seeing the mindset of your husband towards education? Figure it out and pursue your dream.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Why do you honestly want to be a nurse?
I've seen so many choose this path, recently, because they believe it will be easier to move abroad - since nursing is one of the in-demand jobs.

Nursing is a career that requires selflessness! There are far too many horror stories of nurses treating labouring women and the ill like they are a nuisance.

If it's a means to an end for you, then please choose a different path. But if it is from a genuine place, then please go ahead. You will need to juggle a lot between family and school, but it is very achieveable. All the best!

  30. Whether or not you go back to school, in 6 years, you will be 40 years!!!!!
How do you want to clock 40? With your nursing qualifications or without your nursing qualifications? The choice is yours to make.

My friend is 35 and has gone to get a nursing degree, her first degree was in Media studies.

You should keep adding value to yourself till God calls you to rest, you are not prohibited from appreciating in value (like land), as you get older.

Encourage yourself and attain whatever heights you desire.

My mum went back for a nursing degree, after two of my siblings had graduated from University, she and my younger sister graduated from University together. When she was in school, if things get too difficult for her to understand, she will ask her study partners to explain it to her daughter (my sister) who will in turn explain to her and teach her.

There is no shame in adding value to yourself, but it is a real tragedy to refuse to grow and improve yourself while you still can, simply because you are getting older.
