The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has raised concerns about the financial strain on Nigerian universities due to high electricity bills..... ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, who spoke on Thursday during the opening session of a two-day national conference convened by the union in Abuja, said some universities face monthly electricity bills ranging from N200 million to N300 million.
This is a huge burden, considering that the federal government allegedly provides only N15 million monthly for running costs.
Prof. Osodeke highlighted the disparity in funding, pointing out that while universities struggle with these high costs, individual senators receive N21 million monthly.
This situation has triggered fears that many universities may soon shut down due to the unsustainable financial pressure.

ReplyDeleteUniversities, hospitals, police stations, civil service organisations should have concessions as they are government owned. Even large private organisations who employ people that pay tax, should have concessions.

The new tariff is really outrageous. The minister said,he went round other African countries and Nigeria is the lowest. 🤔🤔🤔

ReplyDeleteRight now I live a BQ in a university and the school has decided to ration the power, they turn in on for 3 hours in the morning and 7 hours at night for residents and then 7 hours for offices during the day to cut down on the bills because they can't afford to pay so much for bills.
