Pornography and its resulting negative issues are a worldwide problem, leaving families torn apart. Even churchgoers struggle to break free from pornography's hold. One UK survey revealed that 75 per cent of Christian men and 35 per cent of Christian women viewed pornography regularly or occasionally. When we watch pornography, powerful neurotransmitters such as dopamine are released, which bond us to the images we see. According to neuropsychologist Dr Tim Jennings, 'Any type of repetitive behaviour will create trails [neural pathways] in our brain that are going to fire on an automatic sequence.' Some churches treat this issue as strictly a moral one, failing to realise it's also a brain problem. We advise people to try more, pray more and love the Lord more. And that's important. But when we fight the flesh in the power of the flesh, we end up fighting ourselves.
What's the answer? When our brain has been 'trained' the wrong way, it must be retrained the right way. This calls for radical commitment, such as removing pornography from our life and being accountable to someone. Above all, it involves reprogramming our mind with God's word. Paul writes: 'I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God... And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind' (Romans 12:1-2 NKJV).
You don't have to live in bondage to pornography: Jesus can set you free.

ReplyDeleteYesterday was my mum's birthday. We thought of what to do, then we decided to cook a nice meal to celebrate. Me and my siblings decided on fried rice. We now gathered all our savings.
I went to the store to buy sweet corn and saw over 2k on the size I needed, I also saw over 2k on the size of green peas I wanted to buy and I needed like two of each. That was how I improvised for sweet corn by buying raw corn , the ones that were not strong at all, very tender, 4 for 1k. I added small sugar and boiled till very soft. I also bought the long raw green beans from aboki and forgot about green peas. I bought liver, garlic, ginger, thyme, curry, carrots, green pepper and other ingredients. Then I went on YouTube to watch a video from my favorite chef and then cooked the best fried rice for mum's birthday.
With Android phone I now cook better meals, I have cooked fried rice in the past but that of yesterday was better than the ones I cooked before.
May God grant my mum long life in good health to enjoy the fruits of her labour on us.
