Refiners Upset As Marketers Reportedly Dump Dangote Refinery For Imported Petrol

The Crude Oil Refiners Association of Nigeria (CORAN) is upset because petroleum marketers are choosing to import petrol instead of buying from the Dangote Refinery.

Publicity Secretary of CORAN, Eche Idoko, made this known in a statement condemning the move.

His comments come as a report emerged that 141 million liters of PMS are being conveyed to Nigeria by oil vessels following the full deregulation of the downstream oil sector by the Federal Government.
Nigerian National Petroleum Company on Monday announced a fresh price list for its retail outlets nationwide upon the lifting of Dangote Petrol.
According to the NNPCL, the price adjustments will see petrol sold between N950 to N1,019.22 per liter depending on the location.
This comes after NNPCL trucks successfully lifted Petrol from Dangote Refinery on Sunday.
The development had created a price controversy between Dangote Refinery and NNPC. NNPC had insisted that it bought Dangote Petrol at a per liter pump price of N898, but the 650,000 barrels per day Lagos-based refinery had disagreed with the state-owned firm.
However, in the latest move, petrol marketers, who seemed unsatisfied with the price regime of Dangote Refinery, had to consider the importation of petrol.

Reacting to the development, CORAN alleged that some imported petrol was substandard and was blended in Malta or Togo.
“So I would assure you this regime will pay them way better than the regime of importing petroleum products, where they sell to us, substandard products blended in Malta or Togo and imported into our country,” Idoko stated.
He called for backward integration, saying some were afraid that Dangote would become a monopoly.
“The fear marketers are having is that Dangote will become a monopoly, but that has been taken care of by Dangote subscribing to our association.
“With the Petroleum Industry Act in place and all the agencies in play, there is no way that Dangote can become a monopoly”, he said.

    1. are you daft? or just a GenZ brat. Go and do your history/ research. If they start buying form Dangote..he will monopolize the whole sector and i can guarantee you, you will not see petrol for less than 5k per litre. Look at the trend. He took over the cement business...where are we? his cement sells for almost 15k a bag. Dont let his smooth talks deceive you. He is greedy and wicked.

  7. walahi it is better. Why are we acting as if Dangote is doing all this nonsense having Nigerias best interest at heart. BULLSHIT, Dangote is just greedy and i blame forbes for all this nonsens. Everybody just wants to be on forbes neglecting doing business the right way. If we as a country allow Dangote supply us petrol we are totally finished. The guy monopolizes and kills every sector he ventures into. He doesnt know how to handle competition. He started doing cement, he frustrated Ibeto, Eagle, Elephant cement etc out of business by bribing the useless governments we have. He started pasta..what happened to the rest, flour... same thing. let us call a spade a spade, Dangote is the worst thing to ever happen to Nigeria. Before you come for me, make sure you are sha not a GenZ or GenAlpha baby.

  8. the oil marketers are seeing through his nonsense. Shebi all of a sudden he has started to lament like say na em write lamentations. E never see anything. The oil marketers are the only union where race, religion, tribe etc has not divided them. They are all against Dangote...i am too. And as Nigerians its better we all go against him. The minute the oil marketers start to buy from only him...na 100k per liter we go begin dey buy petrol. Oga Dangote, you will never ever ever be Worlds Richest Man. Not at the rate you are going. Worlds greediest maybe. You and Bola Ahmed Tinubu

  9. The price of Dangote's fuel is equally high, why not 500. Nigeria is a joke. I can't even leave my house most times cos of transport fare.

  10. I support 💯 % the importation of petroleum products. If not, what happened to local rice production and cement will happen to petrol. Imagine a bag of local rice going for as much as N100,000.

  11. Dangote is a businessman and would not go for loss because of Nigerians; he is currently selling for gain based on the price he bought crude, and until the NNPC supplies him cheaply, he can't sell cheaply. The onus is on the NNPC and not marketers; the marketers have seriously corrupted the NNPC that it will only take the grace of God to overcome.
Other cabals in the oil industry include those who own vessels and rely on imports to operate and generate income, as well as those who own refineries located outside Nigeria's borders, such as the alleged "Balablu"
