NIDCOM Reacts To Viral Video Of Nigerians Stranded In Libya

The administration of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission(NiDCOM) says it's attention has been drawn to another viral video which captured some Nigerians stranded in Libya and beseeching for help to come back home.

According to news sources from Punch, the Commission's Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balohun issued a statement on Tuesday, stating that while the video would be looked into, it was pertinent to note that over 10,000 Nigerians were evacuated from Libya a few years ago based on a memo by the NiDCOM Boss, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, which was approved by the then president and a coalition of multi agency team which was formed to evacuate all Nigerians stranded in Libya

He explained that for the umpteenth time, there was a concise and strict warning by the NiDCOM Boss to Nigerians to avoid that deadly route but the warning was not adhered to

It also explained that in the last couple of months, over 4,000 more have been evacuated from Libya, courtesy of the International Organization for Immigration in Nigeria but despite all these efforts, many Nigerians going to Libya and finding themselves stranded again.
However, they noted that the commission has brought the video to the attention of the National Security Adviser, who is in charge of the multi-agency evacuation team.
The Commission once again, warns that dangerous pathways to migration must be frowned at and traffickers who traffick these victims must be named, shamed and arrested.
