Students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) in Abeokuta have started receiving credit alerts from the banks for the students’ loans they applied for, the institution’s Rector, Dr Adeoye Odedeji, said. Odedeji disclosed this on Friday in Abeokuta during the inauguration of newly-elected members of the institution’s Students Union Government (SUG).

Twenty persons have died as a result of devastating floods that ravaged the Bade Local Government Area of Yobe since early August, its Chairman, Alhaji Babagana Ibrahim, has said. Ibrahim told newsmen on Friday in Gashua that most of the deceased were people trapped under the debris of collapsed mud houses.

He also said the EFCC tracked and intercepted 53 stolen vehicles from Canada, which were shipped into the country.

 A US court has sentenced two Nigerian brothers, Samuel Ogoshi, 24, and Samson Ogoshi, 21, to 17 years and six months in prison. They were sentenced for their involvement in a sextortion scheme that tragically led to the suicide of 17-year-old Jordan DeMay.

 The Kebbi State Police Command has reported that its operatives killed a suspected bandit terrorising a local community and arrested two others. The command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, in a statement issued on Friday, disclosed that three AK-47 rifles and ammunition were recovered during the operation.

 The Police Command in Gombe State says it detained nine suspects for various offences in the state. The command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abdullahi Buhari disclosed this at a news conference in Gombe. Buhari, who represented the Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Usman, at the conference, said the crimes committed by the suspects included armed robbery, assisting in concealment, criminal conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen property.

The management of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, and the students have demanded justice for a 21-year-old student of the institution, Abdulqoyyum Bamidele, allegedly killed by the police in Ilorin, the state capital.

On Thursday, students of the polytechnic, led by the institution’s Students’ Union President, Olalekan Isola, and the National President of the National Association of Kwara State Students, Abdulwahab Habeebullahi Arewa, marched to the state police command headquarters in Ilorin to demand justice for the fellow student, Abdulqoyyum Bamide, a National Diploma two (ND) 2 student of Electrical/Electronics Engineering of the institution.
