WhatsApp may exit Nigeria due to a $220 million fine imposed by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) over data privacy issues.
The FCCPC’s demands include changes to WhatsApp’s data handling practices, which WhatsApp claims would make it impossible to operate in Nigeria or globally.
The FCCPC, however, remains firm on its decision, stating that the fine and demands are necessary to protect Nigerian consumers and ensure data privacy. They believe that similar measures have been implemented in other countries without forcing companies to leave the market.

DeleteThe government has every right to. Did Facebook exit the other markets when they were brought up on privacy charges? They always act like they are doing African nations a favour. African customers deserve to have data protection like anyone else. Some countries have banned all of them, FB, IG, WA and they are still surviving.
ReplyDeleteI took love WhatsApp, they shouldn't leave o, how will I cope without their voice and video calls?
ReplyDeleteThis should be resolved amicably oh
ReplyDeleteLet them leave if their pride would not allow them do the needful. We shall survive without them. Some of these foreign companies be behaving like demigods when it concerns Nigeria
