Nigerian Nurses Stranded Abroad And Face Deportation Over Non Verficiation Of Certificates

Nigerian nurses are stranded in various Countries following the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, NMCN, continuous closure of its portal for verification of nurses’ certificates.(The closure of the portal is part of revised guidelines introduced by the NMCN to address the mass exodus of nurses from Nigeria)

It was gathered that while many nurses are currently stranded in different countries abroad, others are on the verge of being deported.
Nursing boards in the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the UK are said to have stopped accepting nursing certificates from Nigerian nurses because they can’t verify their authenticity.

The National Assembly had twice urged the NMCN to open its site and commence verification of Nurses and Midwives based on its former guidelines pending the conclusion of an investigation by the House Committee on Health Institutions.
However, the council has yet to heed the resolution of the House.

    2. This will tell you how the people some of you vote in think. If you treat workers well, will they leave? Resident doctors that are still in Nigeria are on strike so you guys still don't treat them like you need them. How much do Nigerians outside the country contribute to Nigeria's forex? Why not equip more Universities to international standard, train medical professionals and export them to different countries? Some asian countries have mastered this. Once the welfare package and salary for them is competitive, those that choose to stay in Nigeria will stay and others encouraged to go to other countries. Why shrink the source of forex coming into the country by frustrating these nurses? If they all come back, how many of them will be able to get jobs and survive on the salary you pay nurses? That's why it's important to have a backup passport when dealing with ndi nzuzu.

  2. I also read that some nurses from west Africa were failing their tests in some countries and getting their offer of employment revoked. Some ended up in dire straits and living on the edge. I only saw one article last week, so I don’t know much about the issue.

All I can say is read very well these offers and contracts in these countries and institutions making the offers and select a country with a low cost of living if things should go south so that you can still live without stress. If you were not strong academically and only scraped through in your own country then have a backup plan if you fail the program, cause the nursing program is very intense. Also be aware that work schedule could be 12 hour days, maybe more.

    2. Pick me? These are ppl getting the rug pulled from under them after thinking they were set. Having to resort to food banks for food and losing their shifts at the jobs they were provided in care homes and winter is around the corner.

I repeat, read those contracts and offers of employment well. Choose a country with a lower cost of living and make plans for your survival if things go south, especially in countries with a harsh winter.

    3. What has that got to do with verifying their certificate from Nigeria? It's just like having Universities refuse to send your transcript to a University you want to apply for masters abroad just because they want you to school in Nigeria. Does that make sense?

  12. God will so judge this present government. Is it a crime for one to search for greener pastures ?,if the government refuse to help the common man. Their children are abroad and they want over people"s children to remain here.

    1. All their children are outside the country but they want to frustrate these nurses and have them lose their jobs and work permit. Those in middle East are due for deportation if their certificates are not verified.

  13. Why frustrate them? This is a bad idea. All you need to do is to make nursing attractive in Nigeria. Do you want to entrust the health of Nigerian people into the hands of people who feel the system frustrated them? What type of output do you expect from people who feel that the system has failed them?

  14. Why frustrate those that have left already? After spending so much to japa . Nigeria Government should please do better. Winter is coming πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

  15. Why is the justice system so useless in Nigeria? Someone should sue them and force them to open the portal with huge claims if emotional distress and trauma. I feel sad for ambitious brilliant youths in Nigeria. These folks are all wicked. I remember when I thought the sadistic blog that curses for a living was truly interested in the masses. I asked them to get the list and addresses of these folks homes, bought with taxpayer money in different countries. I did not know the blog was a tool for blackmailing and not for social justice.
