The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has directed its members and all workers in the country to shut down the economy if the police arrest Comrade Joe Ajaero, its President. The union said this in reaction to the invitation to Ajaero by the police over alleged financing of terrorism.
The Central Bank of Nigeria has announced a significant increase in remittance inflows, reaching $553m in July 2024. It said the amount is a 130 per cent increase from the corresponding period in 2023.

Anambra State Police Command has busted a kidnappers’ den located in Umuduru in Ihiala Local Government Area of the state. The command said its combined team of police, military and vigilantes carried out the operation, during which a kidnapped victim was rescued unhurt.

. The Police Command in Lagos State has confirmed the death of a 58-year-old man (name undisclosed) who was said to have embarked on a 19-day fast. The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed this, said that the incident happened in the Alagbado axis of the state on Monday at about 6:00 am.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, affirmed the lower court judgment that reinstated Philip Shaibu as the Deputy Governor of Edo State. The appellate court, while delivering judgment in the appeal brought before it by the Edo State House of Assembly, dismissed the appeal seeking to uphold Shaibu’s impeachment.

Rivers State Government on Tuesday confirmed the discovery of two cases of Mpox infections. Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze Oreh, who spoke in Port Harcourt, however, assured that the Ministry of Health has put in place machinery to combat the disease.
