he Federal Government has said progress is being made with the economy and the exchange rate is stabilising. Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, said this while briefing State House Correspondents at the end of Council of State meeting, on Tuesday, August 13, 2024


 The Federal Government has told those seeking regime change to wait till the next election in 2027. Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals, said this on Tuesday while addressing State House correspondents. He claimed that the just concluded EndBadGovernance protest was to unseat President Bola Tinubu.

 President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will, on Wednesday, August 14, depart Abuja for Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, on a three-day official visit to honour the invitation of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Tuesday.

 At least 12 passengers were reportedly burnt to death in a road crash along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Tuesday. It was gathered that the lone crash involving a white Mazda bus marked DDA733XA, occurred at 3:14pm around the Ogere axis of the highway.

 The Port Harcourt Refining Company, a refinery under the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited in Rivers State, has again failed to commence operations after about six postponements. It was observed that promises made to Nigerians by the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources and NNPC about the refinery have continued to witness multiple failures.

 The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of two individuals for possessing a fresh human skull belonging to an unidentified woman in the Amuloko area of Ibadan, the state capital. The command’s spokesperson, Osifeso Adewale, shared this information with our correspondent on Tuesday.

 An Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti Division on Tuesday sentenced four men to life imprisonment for kidnapping a 75-year-old woman in Ikere Ekiti. The defendants, Adeoye Sunday, Adewusi Dare, Bamigboye Damilola and Ogunlayi Seun, were also on Monday sentenced to five years imprisonment each for the offence of conspiracy.

 The Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare and Security Operatives, has apprehended a 34-year-old man, identified as Chukwudi Okoye, for defiling a 10-year-old girl. It was gathered that the suspect, said to be a seminarian in the Anglican Communion, committed the act in the Amanuke community, Awka North Local Government Area in the state.

 President Bola Tinubu has approved a new national policy aimed at curbing the migration of health workers. In a statement on X on Monday, the coordinating minister of health and social welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, announced that the policy is a comprehensive strategy designed to manage, harness, and reverse the trend of health worker migration.

 The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says the Federal Government’s directive for the suspension of six-month food tariff can result in the forfeiture of N188.37billion revenue. Its Comptroller-General, Adewale Adeniyi broke the news in his keynote address on “Facilitating food trade through Customs process: Best Practices for Nigeria” in Abuja.

 Ahead of the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, Hon. Omosede Igbinedion, a former federal lawmaker who represented Ovia Federal Constituency, has resigned her membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
 Omosede, the daughter of Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom, submitted her letter of resignation from the party, which was dated August 11, 2024.
The letter was addressed to Mr. Lucky Edosomwan, the PDP Chairman in Okada West Ward 1, in Ovia North East Local Government Area.
She also copied the party’s chairman in Ovia North-East Local Government, the Edo State Chairman of the party, the Acting National Chairman, the State Working Committee, and the National Working Committee of the party.
Omosede was among the aggrieved PDP governorship aspirants who protested against the conduct of the ward and local government delegates elections for the party’s primary.
She represented the party in the National Assembly between 2015 and 2019.
She cited a lack of equity, fairness, justice, and the marginalization of long-standing party members as reasons for her resignation.
