Throw back when I was an Alter boy. I joined the Alter service at the age of nine and that should be in the year 1999. Growing up, I was loved by so many people mostly the elderly due to my commitment to things of God. I served mass every morning and on Sundays. I loved the liturgy and sacraments. I so much believed in the Eucharist and never missed the Sunday evening adoration. I learnt all the Latin prayers and can still recite and sing them fluently till date especially the Credo, which is the Catholic creed.
ReplyDeleteI had that joy serving mass and had wanted to be a priest. I got a scholarship at Bigard Memorial seminary at Enugu in 2003 at the age of 18. I still can't explain why I opted out when everyone was routing for me.
I think with that action of mine, I disappointed so many persons even my parents.
I loved wedding mass as well but you see first Saturday mass been held for the Catholic women organization, I don't miss it. These mothers usually bring foodstuff such as bag of rice, beans, yams, provisions, garri and so many other things.
After Mass, the priest will gift us some measured foodstuff to go home with. Sometimes, his cook will cook and we'll all be invited at the dining. I can tell you, priest are really enjoying. They treat us very well too. Whenever I passed through the kitchen, there were lots of edible even oranges, plantain, pineapples, Apples, bread etc. As Alter boy, I enjoyed so much from my Rev. Father until I left years later.
Sometimes I still feel and wish I didn't give up that dream. I said this cos of the dream I had in 2005 when I joined the CCRN. After our life in spirit seminar, I prayed for a ministry to join. I didn't get a sign. On the last day of our form submission, I dreamt the night before where I was ministering in a large congregation. Immediately I woke up and filled in Evangelical ministry.
Today, it's all a different story with my life. Sometimes I just wish I can go back in time......

My younger brother is an alter server too,while my sis joined the "Lay Readers Association".
There is this feeling of fulfillment after serving God at every mass especially morning masses;but the only mass I didn't like was Burial mass,makes me very emotional.

It was there I learnt the positioning of the corpse to be facing the door while that of a deceased priest should be facing the alter. A reason was given for that by the mother church.

The only time I served mass as a full grown adult, was during a reunion of old boys association of Alter servers. Omoh that day choke. Come see married men and big boys with SUVs that day. All adorned in vestment.
The parishioners were all clapping and intrigued. Though some of them are late now. May their souls keep resting.
Anon my bad, I joined in 1994. The year I lost my elder brother, our first son. His death changed everything in the family and the beginning of every lost my father ever suffered in life. Over 40yrs plus, mom still hasn't gotten over it.
It was a wrong calculation I did. I still have my ID with me. I just check it now. Very little then.

I became a Lector when I was 14 and I'm still one even after so many years. I feel so proud. Even people I don't know stop to greet me on the road. There's this joy that comes with attending morning masses when it's not just Sunday.
DeleteThen, if I'm to proclaim at stations outside the parish sometimes before going to school, I go to the parish house as early as 6:am to wait for the officiating Priest so that he'd take me along in his car, while gospel songs blasts from the car speakers. I wouldn't trade those memories for anything.

DeleteI have heard enough from those who want you to join theirs thinking they do it better. My sisters left but came back when they were not satisfied with other churches. The only thing God want from you is repentance and holiness, if you like claim to know all the Bible, speak In tongues etc, you won’t make heaven when you lack this attributes.

There are funeral insurance plans out there to ensure that you will be handled with care and not pressure those left behind to come up with funds which they may not have to deal with your last moments. People get funny when they have to spend on someone else's burial, so set things in place while you can. Someone quoted the current cost of a cremation and burial to me and I was floored at how expensive end of life care has gotten. It's neither cheap to live or die these days

I am the same TJ, I hate elaborate funerals. I am more of a cremation person but I know my mother would never cremate me if I was to die before she does, so deep is her belief that a body needs to be present for the resurrection. So setting things in place ahead of time ensures that things are done as you wish and you can decide how much you wish to be spent.

Don't eat anything at night, just take Cocoa powder mixed with hot water and drink before going to bed.
1 table spoon of cocoa powder will do.
You can take a cup of zobo during lunch.
If you cannot keep up because of work. Just make sure you take your Cardio Vit after meal and Cocoa powder at night.
If you can take only zobo continuously, morning, afternoon and night, it will do the magic. Cook the zobo leaves, do not add anything! Drink the water. It's somehow stressful that's why some people can't keep up but research shows that it works better and faster than others without any side effect and it's the cheapest.
Make sure you keep checking your BP and know when to stop taking that zobo because it can make you have low BP.
Then, resume taking your Cardio Vit and Cocoa powder. They be should be part of your everyday activities.

DeleteI doubt majority of women are after money. A very good friend of mine got married dirt poor, as in, her husband had nothing and still has very little. And not only monetarily poor, also a poverty in culture, experiences and looks. But she is committed to her spouse in his lack and they continue on in faith and appear to be at peace with each other. Every other woman that I know of who is married, is either married averagely or a little above financially. Men without much financially can still secure very good wives, they are out there.
