Many depots for Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, are currently dry, leading to fuel scarcity and attendant queues in Lagos, Ogun, parts of Abuja, Niger, and some other states across the country. Black marketers have taken advantage of the situation, selling as high as between N1,300 to N1,500 per litre in parts of Lagos and Ogun states.


 The Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise has cautioned that the planned nationwide protests coming up on August 1 could inflict an estimated daily loss of N400bn, with severe consequences for the country and its citizens. The Director/CEO of CPPE, Dr. Muda Yusuf, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

 The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old woman, identified as Yetunde Gbadebo, for attempting to sell her three-year-old daughter on Aladiye Street in Sagamu. The suspect was caught while negotiating a N700,000 price for the toddler with a 38-year-old man identified as Sunday None.

 Gunmen have attacked a Nigeria Customs Service patrol base in Koko, Kebbi State, killing one officer and abducting one other in the process. A press statement made available to newsmen on Sunday evening by the Public Relations Officer, Kebbi Area Command, Mohammed Tajuddeen Salisu, said the incident occurred on Thursday.

 A High Court sitting at Kwale, Delta State has sentenced a man, Efajemue Israel Aziakpono, to six and 10 years imprisonment, respectively, for the offences of conspiracy to commit arson and arson. The court presided over by Justice O.F. Enenmo convicted and sentenced Aziakpono to 16 years imprisonment for the offences. The sentences would run concurrently.

 Lagos State council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on its members not to stay away from their offices during the period marked for protest. Its chairperson, Mrs. Funmi Sessi said the organisers should stay away from Lagos and go to their respective states to stage their protests.

. Next of kin, legal representatives, or beneficial owners have been cleared by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to make claims on unclaimed balances or funds in dormant accounts. The clarification was made by the apex bank in a report it released at the weekend.

 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in last year’s general elections, Peter Obi, has thrown his weight behind the planned nationwide protest over the current economic hardship. Some youths are planning a nationwide protest between August 1 and 15 against the rising cost of living and economic hardship.

 Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Sunday, said “frustrated politicians” are behind #EndBadGovernance protest which is currently gaining traction nationwide. He asked youths to shun the planned protest and engage the government constructively with a view to finding solutions to the economic hardship in the land.

President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela has been declared winner of the country’s presidential election.
He is thus set to return as president for the third time.
According to the electoral body of the country, Maduro won the election conducted Sunday, July 28, with 51 percent of the vote.

The Labour Party, LP, has described Kenneth Okonkwo as a mole, saying his exit from the party was not a surprise.
The Party said that Okonkwo’s attack on its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was unfortunate and attention-seeking.
Okonkwo, a chieftain of the LP, on Sunday, said he no longer had confidence in the ability of Obi to build a party that can win elections.
